UD

I find the concept of Universal Design to be an intelligent way to include an upgrade on a campus that benefits everyone.

FERPA

I am glad we have this measures such as FERPA in place for our students.

Admission Requirements in Texas by TWC and TDLR?

I am opening my first cosmetology/esthetics/nail tech/massage school and it will be opening in Texas. I am a novice and need some help. I see on here that Admissions must be in the guidelines of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), Career Schools and Colleges. However, I believe I must also do the admission requirements of Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Must I understand the Laws and Rules under both agencies and get myself informed with a attorney? Is there another person who can guide me to make sure I understand each section? Is there certain important documents I should see?

Anything is helpful and thank you in advance for your support!

What is a 3rd Party Service Provider

I was surprised at some of the answers to Quiz 1 in the FERPA class. What is a 3rd Party Service provider, and under what circumstances would they need to see a student's educational record?

What is considered Educational Record?

I have been misinformed on what constitutes an educational record. I have learned a lot so far.

Challenges in Higher Education

I think the main challenge is that of affordability. 25 years ago a person could make enough money to go to college by working part-time. Today, that is impossible.

The business of student loans has gotten out of hand.

Threaded discussions

How many questions are posted and what is the time limit placed upon threaded discussions for Carnegie purposes? Do you have a word limit on responses?

Review of Institutional Policies

I was astonished to read that institutions had a 20-year time span without any government regulation.

Staff upset with supervisor

While I was reading the material, it is really challenging for a school to control every single person that comes into contact with students. While there are systems in place to minimize the risk, there is always a possibility that a staff member does the wrong thing on purpose, because he or she is upset with management for example. I recently was in a networking event, where I overheard someone saying they had done this on purpose to get his boss in trouble.

Have anyone experience this or seen this happen? I would like to know the outcomes when someone does this on purpose to tarnish the reputation of the institution they work for.

Be there

Support of student is the mission of all educators.

Misleading Statements

what is the best way to ensure that admission reps are current with all of these regulations?  How often should training be done

Inspect What You Expect

The old saying holds true for all departments within a campus.  The education industry is organic and by that I mean is constantly changing.  Inspecting what we do consists of ensuring that what we do is compliant but it also consists of making sure that what we are doing satisfies current directives.

Posting Competitors Tuition costs

Is it ethical or compliant to post our Nursing School's competitors tuition costs?
