Must be clear about sources for facts and figures related to occupational fields
The section regarding the GI Bill and rules attached was very informative.
I was not aware of Recovery of Funds.
I'm glad to know that students may have recourse if they are attending a school that loses their accreditation. I have been aware of some programs that have lost their accreditation and felt so bad for the students who have lost time and money.
Recovery Funds
Some states have implemented tuition recovery funds to protect students from colleges which close or have other problems which adversely impact students. Basically, these are similar to an insurance policy in that an assessment is paid into the fund (like an insurance premium) and claims may be paid upon provision of evidence of harm done by the institution. These funds may be claimed by students deemed "victims" under specified conditions which vary by state.
As a staff member of an institution, I've learned the importance of being mindful of the information we provide to students to avoid sharing misleading information. Additionally, it's crucial that we familiarize ourselves with federal regulations applicable to our institution.
Did not know about Tuition Recovery funds established by some states
I learned why college/university catalogs are so bulky. The information required by law is diverse and detailed. The reason for this is to ensure that the perspective/current student is transparency, integrity and honesty. When a student has a question about an area I have no knowledge of, I will refer them to the college catalog and a qualified staff member.
There is a lot of information to digest here and it would probably be best to save the links for a lot of these regulations and guidelines, but again, transparency and honesty and integrity seem to be the theme here as well. :)
I learned more about FERPA.
Clarity in advertising regulations protects prospective student consumers by ensuring institutions set realistic expectations. This openness empowers students to make more informed decisions.
Every institution should have regulations printed and accessible to all students and prospective students.
The military section was informative.
As a general education faculty member, it is wise to not comment and/or defer any questions my students may have, outside of the content I teach, to the dean, program office, admissions office, etc.
The state regulations was helpful. I also liked seeing how schools are able to use social media for advertising but still using honesty and accurate information for the school in social media is crucial.
Never speak negatively about another institution and be cautious with social media content.
If a student asks a question that we are not 100% sure about, it's better to show them the school approved written document that has the answer. I will make sure to keep all resources handy for reference to student questions.
It is very important that the advertising and communications for your institution is clear and honest so that there is no confusion or misrepresentation.
Knowing the importance of the State and Federal laws is very important.
I knew there were specific requirements when working with military students. I currently don't have much experience with military, but it is good to have this information so that we maintain compliance. Very helpful.
