As an instructor, I should strive to do all I can for online learners to help alleviate alienation, excessive workloads, and technical issues.
I learned how to lidar with disruptive students
This unit is very interesting as it touches on very relevant topics on managing a good registration system that is simple but effective, managing communications effectively, managing the behavioral traits of our students, conflict management and particularly dealing with desertions.
Very interesting and practical guide, the content of this module
One thing that took my attention is how to prevent overload and deal with technical issues
That it is a good idea to set expectations to limit procrastination. To also communicate and make sure students have a contingency plan if something goes wrong.
Excellent course, We learn how to manage conflicts with students and how not to let them lead to dissertation.
I learned that different learners have varying communication preferences.
I really enjoyed this module. It was my favorite thus far. I really learned a lot and was able to relate to everything I read. I love the section on discussing having model answers for all assignments for students viewing. I will certainly be working on that in some of my classes. I also appreciated the section on how to deal with students who like to intimidate. I have always been able to deal with students like this fairly well by messaging them privately or emailing them and having a one-on-one discussion with them.
These are things we do all the time, either online or offline and they are all important
It is important to alleviate technical difficulties.
I think it is very important to learn and understand the different types of student's behaviors in an e-learning and classroom setting.
Being able to identify the different types of behavior can help the instructor adjust teaching techniques and strategies to help the student become successful.
It is important to create a way/method to maintain safe record keeping. Message sent in private should be responded to in private.
This module made me focus more on the different personalities such as the intimidator, the disruptor, and the procrastinator, and how their individual behaviors can impact the asynchronous learning environment.
I intend to address students individually via email when I detect certain behaviors.
I've learned developing relationship in e-learning environment can be challenging. When problem occurs you want to handle it quickly before it escalates. You want to contact your senior administrator and keep a record of all communication relevant to handle any behavioral problems.
I learned that just as there are different types of learners in the traditional classroom, the same applies to learners online.
I really appreciated the focus on how to deal with difficult students, and how to counsel those facing difficulties. The ideas for storing course communication and discussions/materials will definitely help keep me organized.
There are many different types of e-learners, and understanding those types can help an instructor manage the course effectively. Dealing with disruptive students can be handled in different ways as well.
Treat all personal e-mail messages with the degree of confidentiality they deserve.
