Professional Development is an opportunity to enhance an online instructor's strengths and improve upon their weaknesses. It enables instructors to develop the knowledge and skills needed to manage their workload, improve instruction, and enhance the learning process.

 

Student involvement and good communication makes for a successful online course.

 

As an Administrator of an online course, I should manage time and function, establish rules and regulations, and demonstrate leadership qualities.

 

Student engagement and active learning should be a key element of a student-centered learning environment. 

 

For student success there must be personal goal setting and planning.

Asynchronous communication includes email, Discussion Boards, Wiki, and Blogs.

Synchronous communication includes application sharing, web conferencing, chats, conferencing, instant messages, and whit boarding.

Good online citizenship information may include specifics about plagarism, copyright issues, and academic honesty policies.

Online instructors should be good at multitasking, organizing, and connumicating. Time management for the instructor and the student is a major factor in an online course success.

Communication guidelines should be discussed so that students take responsibility for learning. Ultimate goal for online programs should be to facilitate learning while building community.

It is important for online instructors to be aware of communication differences among generations so they can differentiate instruction. It is also essential to keep all students engaged and contributing.
