I think that it is so much more important to frontload the class in terms of creating a mental model of iseeus that may arise with the curriculum as well as the set up of the classroom.

Online learning can be challenging in different ways to different people, it is imperative to to provide student with support through proper communication techniques and behavior management. Clear expectations of behavior as stated in the policies and procedure in conflict management will alleviate frustration from both faculty and student and provide a positive a positive learning environment for everyone.

Online education should be a challenge and reward, but keeping students attention is on commitment by the student and leadership by the instructor Instrutor

keeping course records in a folder for each class you are teaching. How recognize different behavor.

This section reinforces the multitude of factors that may disrupt on line learning and individual students' patterns of behavior. Hopefully the instructor's interactions with individual struggling students and/or over competitive or narcicisstic students can reolve any issues. It is reassuring that if absolutely necessary you can look to your institution for help.

Keeping up with emails, assignments, chat logs and other forms of communications is an important part to any online course.  Open communication is a valuable asset to not only encourage students, but also to council.  Communication is a valuable tool to reduce student attrition and to keep the course on track.

I focused on the conflict resolution material. The information on resolving and addressing qu.ickly seems especially helpful and poignant

Technical issues are major factors in the quality of the learning.  It frustrates the learner and increases alienation. Students should email the instructor immediately and acknowledged for his/her attempt to participate.

Reply to Rose Elam's post: I agree Rose that communication provides an effective learning environment for the student. The lack thereof will hender the line of communication between all parties.

Teachers play a significant role in reducing attrition in a class, especially via online delivery, where there may be some flexibility.  This should be considered as we are offering remote learning.  Students may be working and have other competing interests.

In some ways, online learning is like the classroom. Some students will be quiet, others disruptive, others dominating, etc. Know the policies and how to deal with each.

I learned that it is important to keep good records of contact and student participation even online. Online you deal with different types of students just as in the class. It is also important to follow guidelines when dealing with students and to make each session with students equitable.

An onine environment sounds much like a classroom environment with the different personalities.  I think by having policies in place before the class begins will difuse many problems.  Monitoring and resolving conflicts will take a different approach than in a regular classroom setting.

I learned a lot about providing an online work environment that can deal effectively with conflicts that arise and with various behavior issues.  Also learned how to prevent attrition and work with students who are having difficulties.  I will definitely want to have a clear and organized way to communicate with students in a timely manner and in appropriate ways for the situation.  Organizing communication files will be a challenge for me.

The Course Structure, Guidelines, and Course Requirements depend on my expertise in organizational skills. Fortunately, I am blessed with that skill.  The Course Learning Objectives are mightily dependent on me-managing learners, projecting my authority and presence in the e-learning environment, build a relationship with each learner, manage communication, provide help with technical issues.  This area will take organization of a different skill set.  I look forward to working with both areas.

It will be important to monitor student involvement closely in ELA, because higher level students will naturally produce more language output than lower levels. Lower level students may feel intimidated or discouraged by that.

Online courses may be challenging to students that procrastinate.      It is my responsibility as an instructor to communicate with my students daily and handle conflicts/concerns immediately and consistently.    Students need to be held responsible for their leanring.  This standard needs to be evident from day one.

To prevent fragmentation of learning, it is paramount to keep goodand open communication to our students. Guiding the students to resolve conflicts will help them keep their commitment to education.

Keep good records of communication, especially with the disruptive students.  Talk with them privately.  Encourage students and remind them to stay on task.  Time management is a hard issue in distance learning.  We always think we have plenty of time, and then it's due and we haven't started...

I've learned that the communication is the key for student success. Additionally, constructive, regular feedback and counseling are also important in student e- learning environment.
