Communication is essential for the success and retention of online students.
This article helped me mange my e-mail and communication with my students it also helped me mange the more problematic individuals in my class.
In online courses, it is essential to develop behavior management techniques for the different behavior profiles of students (noisy, quiet, disruptive, intimidating, and provocative) as well as the stress to which many students are subjected due to workload and studies
I found it helpful to examine different types of disruptive or ineffective student communication and how to manage them in the online setting. It will be helpful for me to keep a copy of the school's policies and procedures for handling such issues close by for reference

Regardless of the environment, students that disrupt learning, procrastinate and are upset can coexist with students who are highly motivated, independent, critical thinkers, and actively involved in the class. It is important for instructors to recognize each student and their habits in order to ensure each student is maximizing their opportunity to learn in the classroom without taking away from others' experiences.
What i learned in this section was that reasons for students to prematurely leave online learning programs or courses is due to the alienation, tech issues, workload, and competing responsibilities. This is something that i have witnessed myself as becoming an instructor, but i hope to do all i can for students, so they may succeed against all that may combat that.
I think it is important to document any interaction I have with a student in regard to policy, grades, and tardiness. This will help keep a paper trail of any disruptions.
I learned that even online class will have the one student who wants to be the center of attention, it can be in a positive or negative way.

This section gives some valuable information on how to address different types of students. It also provided helpful information about strategies to deal with difficult students professionally and fairly. This session informed about reasons why students might drop a course. Personal or family issues, not having enough technical knowledge for online course, and workload.
Communicating via emails and being addressing to students personal problems with privacy.
Keeping student's record is important. Communication is the key to resolve any conflicting issues. We can counsel the patients via email. We have to be careful about the choice of wording. Based on the student's learning style and current situation we may offer tips regarding how to complete the course on time.
Always keep a pulse on your students, during the introductions see whole has children, aging parents, keep lines of communication open. Always refer to IT help desk in every module with phone numbers, email links etc.. Make is harder for the attrition to find excuses/reasons to leave

The technical survey early on is a great idea since this would need to be addressed early on to participate before falling too far behind and possibly exiting the course prematurely.

Online teaching brings all sort of challenges with students. I learned the importance to be prepared and to expect the unusual. Students are human and tend to behave differently. No matter what, there will be those who can never be satisfied.
I like the recommendations on how to deal with the different types of disruptors during online learning. As a brand new instructor, these types of recommendations are extremely helpful to me.
