A streamlined and intuitive structure is my goal while developing our online course. I will take student feedback to improve upon the process as it evolves.

In an e-learning environment, instructors may vary in the way they teach but best practices should be followed when employing techniques and strategies within an online/e-learning environment. This is to ensure all instructors have the same set of guidelines in which to apply the techniques each has learned.

There is no replacement for preparation. Even experienced teachers should review the LMS before the start of a new course. In fact, instructors would benefit from taking the student orientation course to get the student perspective. Empathy is one key to successful communication, which is key to learning.

I've learned that quality online courses require structural integrity, intellectual interaction, navigational simplicity, and active learner-centered learning.

Communication is a learning process.
Although my course that has been assigned to me is not an online course, I am taking this course to gain knowledge for the "just in case" factor. I am not anticipating my course(s) to be online, but it always good to know about online instruction to be prepared for the worst.
It is not shocking to be expected to know the CMS like the back of your hand, but I was a bit alarmed to see all of the responsibilities that the instructor is tasked with for the support side of the CMS.
If you want to help the students succeed in online courses you must be able to help them with the course material and technology support. You must know your platform in and out incase the students fall upon technological issues that are within your control.
Information contained in "Refining Your Message" is very useful.
It was good to know all of the whys behind the way the courses are set up. This gives a greater understanding of how we teach with the tool provided to us.
This course helped teach me the different methods of communication and how to handle each method. How to prepare for the "weaknesses" of each method and how to better prepare my overall communication.
To ensure student centricity and success, instructors must be fully versed in the CMS and the institution's resources. In addition, all means available should be used to communicate with students and ensure every student understands course assignments and expectations.
I learned that I need to know my CRS system which is for us CANVAS. I also need to know my goals for the course so I can structure it appropriately. I learned that students have a higher sense of comfort and security when they feel they have support. I can accomplish this by providing feedback in a timely manner, responding to emails quickly, and knowing my office hours. I also need to make sure my technology is working and where to get help if needed.
