Activity

Multiple evaluations of the course need to be in place throughout the online. Possible at the end of each module.

Immediate feedback is so important to the students. The longer it takes for a response there is loss of the student's train of thoughts and ideals. This could also lead to a loss of interest in the assignement.

Students to be successful in online learning but be engaged. If there is only tutoring and multiple choice questions, the learner will not engage. Make sure you know what the student's prior knowledge is before scaffolding their learning.

"Scaffolding is the process of building knowledge/skills, and a knowledge/skills structure, based on prior knowledge/skills and experiences.  It is the instructor's role to be the "tour guide" to help students map their success in an online course".

I think this is the most important statement when teaching online students. Students will all bring prior knowledge to the course and building on that and their experience will enhance their participation and buy into the programs.

Pre-made online teaching programs that have tested their programs and know the level of success are the best online program to use even with the cost.

Knowing the policies and procedures for handling e-learning must be understood by the students and well as the facilitator. I think the large group discussion should never happen with e-learners.

As a teacher giving feedback online I need to always be encouraging to participate, building their confidence to feel free to respond, and motivating them to not be afraid.

After 12 years of online teaching this is the most important, "establish and sustain a relationship of mutual trust, harmony, respect, and understanding among your students; to inspire new ideas from them, and to encourage creativity as you facilitate their learning." without the relationship you can never gain the trust of the student and they will not be able to help them with their learning.

What I learned, and how I intended to apply it.

I learned that to be the facilitator of the online courses I must understand the expectations of the course,  even though I may not be an expert on that subject. The online teacher is the one presenting the materials the students need, I must understand how to access the materials need to support the students in the online class, whether it be guiding reading notes, resenting quizzes, or reviewing.
