Hello!
I learned a lot from this module. To begin, I think providing examples for each assignment can help decrease confusion and also help different types of learners. I also learned to try and give choice to students since not every student learns the same. Maybe focusing on UDL to help cater to their needs can be helpful!
I have learned the importance of engaging students who might not feel connected due to the online learning environment. I will do my best to make everyone feel involved and cared for.
For me, the most useful advice concerned communication, specifically giving efficient, effective feedback as well as frequent, friendly reminders. I will continue my commitments in this area.
I also appreciate the suggestion of having students share their knowledge (especially problem solving / trouble-shooting tips) with each other via forums. I will try to encourage my students to do this in an open forum space on my LMS. However, many students are unwilling to post in a non-graded forum, so the challenge will be to tap their intrinsic motivation.
Finally, one small, concrete tip that I intend to add to my welcome messages going forward was the advice to have students record my contact methods on paper, off-line / outside of the online classroom, in case they run into technology issues that prevent them from accessing me via other contact methods. It's great to anticipate this likely possibility and help students problem-solve.
This course helped me identify areas where I could improve on as far as online learning is concerned. Providing more technical support to students is a great way to improve this.
Search out the students who are not engaging and focus on helping them gain courage.
To improve motivational engagement, I plan to add real-life examples and give students more choice in how they complete assignments, which can help them feel more connected to the material. I’ll also start a simple weekly check-in to offer support and encouragement, which I can do on my own without needing administrative help.
It was very encouraging to read this section because it seems like my courses have done a good job of weaving these principles into them.
Social engagement and motivational engagement dependent on each other to facilitate optimal learning functioning.
Comment on Robert Miller's post: Code became so easy usign Colab and Drive that it is worth to have a look
Engage everyone of all age groups and make sure they are all comfortable with the platform.
I think it's important to keep the students interested and engaged, especially in on-line classes.
It's important to engage all learners and use interactive simulations and social media to switch up the different ways of participation.
I think it is an excellent course, since it invites you to go a little outside the box as they say, because although students must be responsible, I believe and I am sure that through proper motivation, they can participate and get involved much more.
I have learned that communication needs to start early, and be ongoing for student success.
Engaging online learners is necessary in virtual courses. Planning for all learners is essential. Considering learning modalities will help instructors reach all learners.
I have learned that I need to find my learners where they are and create learning activities that will engage all, not just some of my learners. Some can learn from just written materials, but I need to create different opportunities for different types of learners to be successful.
