I’ve learned that students stay engaged online when lessons are interactive, clear, and motivating. I plan to use this by adding activities where students participate, giving quick feedback, and letting them choose some of their work. I also want to see how my classmates use these ideas so I can try them too.

In this module, I learned that engagement in online learning is much more complex than simply delivering content. It requires design that supports both social and motivational engagement. I now better understand how important it is to create opportunities for meaningful interaction, not just between students and content, but also among students and between students and the instructor.

One key takeaway for me was the importance of building community. While I had already incorporated discussions and group work. I realized that I need to be more intentional about fostering deeper connections through icebreakers, informal spaces, and consistent group interactions. These strategies can help reduce isolation and make students feel more comfortable participating.

I also gained insight into motivational engagement, particularly the need to sustain motivation throughout a course. Moving forward, I plan to apply these ideas by redesigning parts of my course to include structured goal-setting activities, regular check-ins, and more opportunities for peer feedback.

I've learned that engaging students is an important way for the students to learn effectively through discussions, online study groups, tutoring hours, etc.

This module has provided valuable insights into effective teaching practices I’ve already been using, as well as introducing innovative methods that I should adopt in the classroom. By actively engaging students in an online environment, we can significantly enhance their learning experience and achieve better educational outcomes.

I have learned that while there are various teaching styles and techniques that will work for in-class learning, may not be appropriate for online learners. In this light, I have learned that I can implement current technology that relates to students of today; these technologies include social media platforms which can be used to engage students on a level of their liking.

I have learned that as much as the student's have good intentions with setting aside time for viewing/listening to online lectures, but it may not awlays happen. Breaking lectures into manageable chuncks at a time sounds achievable and may even more memorable. I will create several shorter powerpoint videos by topics.

This module was a good that consistent communication and the use of more interactive discussion board questions can help make the material more meaningful and allows for students to engage more interactively with one another.

Content chunking is my type of review.  It creates a different way for students that are having difficulty understanding the concept on the first go round.

As a beginner to teaching online courses, this was very helpful.

This was a great course.

I have learned that my use of Remind is an important task!

Students do well when they have a sense of belonging and community interaction.  They also do well when encouraged to share their ideas, their experiences and perspectives.  When we can spend some time during a discussion board or during a lecture session and they have this opportunity to share, and we also, as a class and as the instructor can share, comment and encourage, there is more engagement in the course.  All of this can center on and circle around topics in the course itself.

One thing I took away from this module is the importance of both social and motivational engagement in online courses. Many students are balancing work, school, and family responsibilities, so things like clear instructions, reminders, and instructor participation can help keep them engaged. Moving forward, I would like to improve how certain assignments are explained by possibly including examples or brief clarifications, while also continuing to participate in discussions and connect my own experiences to students’ posts to help maintain a sense of community in the course.

This topic helped me reinforce that online learning works best when students feel connected. Moving forward I want to focus on desgining lessons that encourage more engagement so students stay motivated and get the most out of the learning experience.

Instead of just providing facts, focus on their confidence with immediate feedback. Low-stakes feedback to prevent learners from giving up.

Its important to keep students engaged in order to help them absorb the knowledge and also to create connections during their time online since this is going to be their first appearance in the industry; this is their first contact with the reality of the music that lives out there.

Helping students stay focused by reflecting on their motivation and goals has been an effective strategy during online learning. Students who are learning online may easily be distracted by a lack of space to study, family commitments, and work. I have learned to address the unique aspects of each student who has different ways of learning. I am learning to incorporate different tools to allow different perspectives to achieve the concepts and knowledge of a topic.

Examining some of the successful strategies I've already been using as well as other fresh, cutting-edge approaches I should use in the classroom has been an intriguing lesson. The classroom will benefit by including students in an online setting.

With online learning, most of the learner population will be your nontraditional adult learners of different ages, educational backgrounds/experiences who are balancing work, family responsibilities, and other life commitments. By understanding these personal experiences, it can help educators identify areas where flexibility, clearer communication, and additional academic support can help improve the learning experience.

This course reinforced the importance of introductions/social engagement. Having a present instructor, especially in an online course, is vital because it will allow the learner to feel supported and have that sense of connection, even when it is through a screen. Having an organized LMS and providing a syllabus early can help the learner prepare for the upcoming course, and would also have a way to contact the instructor in case of any clarifications needed. Providing feedback to the student regularly through structured rubrics or during office hours go a long way and have been met with positivity.

Lastly, student engagement is very important when it comes to online learning. Every learner has a different learning style, so the instructor must have different learning strategies/methods in their course. Discussion boards about the material of the week, requiring relevant responses and replies to each other, interactive activities that may include simulations, videos, flashcards, quizzes. These can also involve active learning strategies, such as reviewing required reading/material before attending Skills Lab so that the learner can participate in active discussion and have some confidence in practicing a skill, Case-Based Learning scenarios.

By utilizing these important strategies, online/blended learning can be impactful and a positive experience for learners.
