I have learned that students need a multitude of support from the instructor. Also, we have different types of students with different learning styles that we must adhere to in order for students to be successful.
I have come to the conclusion that knowing the background of my students gives me a better understanding of how to reach them in my instructional process to best meet their needs. Having the supplies available/internet is often overlooked but plays a big part in education.
I have learned to ask each student about their goals and why they are here. It is also important to understand each individual student's background and how they learn and interpret information.
I believe it is important to speak with the students to see if they understand and determine what they would like to get out of the course.
It is important to understand the motivations of the student in pursuing additional education. There are many factors to consider when looking at the students (background, current obstacles, and etc) but their motivation will drive them to achieve their goals.
I have found that standing in front of a classroom and sharing your knowledge of a subject is just the beginning ... reading and observing your students is the key to a successful teaching experience. All of the issues discussed in this lesson are what I experience every day. I have five weeks per block of training and have experienced every one of these topics discussed.
The lessons learnt is the ability to work with all students in a way the is promoting to the educational goal. Listening and observing the student learning skills, ensuring that the learning environment is supportive of the students learning and paying attention to the students' needs in a professional manner as well as providing some degree of support within my scope.
I have learned students of different a age or culture have different needs to learn material.
In this course I have learned that teaching isn't "one size fits all". Depending on student's experience, background, age, life experience, and learning abilities students require different approaches to learning. Getting to know your students can improve the instructor's ability to teach and help students to have a better overall understanding of the course materials and to be successful in their career after graduation.
Instructors should attempt to create a safe and supportive environment by being empathetic and understanding for those students dealing with personal or school frustration.
I like how the course suggested to let adult learners include how their life experience can contribute to their learning and educational experience.
This course reminded me that communication is key. Every student is unique and learns differently. This will help me as an instructor by utilizing many different teaching methods for a greater outcome.
What I have learned from this course is when students give me their thoughts regarding their goals, it's up to me to elaborate on what they say, and help direct them on the right path for them to achieve them.
What I have learned from this course is that it's important to hear what your student's concerns are regarding learning, and give them life experiences for them to relate to.
it is important to take in consideration that every person it is different and we need to learn how to manage that. Also the real life for an adult can impact the develop.
Understanding where the student is coming from, their unique perspectives and current life situation, is most helpful in establishing rapport and building a cohesive and meaningful learning environment. Understanding the difficulties that may come up, listening and being a neutral party, can direct that student to resources which can help; thereby retaining them in the school and decreasing the rate of attrition.
From this section I have learned that a great way to get students of all ages and ethnicities to work together is to have different students work together in small groups to learn more about each student.
It is important to know your students. Who are they? Why are they here? Where did they come from? Where do they want to be? Knowing a little something about each student will allow the instructor to offer the support they need in order to be successful. An adult learner may have a lot to offer during class discussions due to their life experiences; younger learners may learn from these real life examples.
I learned that adult learners are driven by different reasons than those learners just out of high school.
The frustration aspect of learners is interesting as well. How to hear them out but still keep it professional was interesting.
This module is very effective in instructing students of all walks of life. I am a nursing instructor who have student from all age groups, racial backgrounds and educational levels. It is important to when teaching try to meet everyone's individual needs.
