Having lots of open discussion during lectures is a great way for students to learn not only from you but from each other. I believe this will also help in retention of information as well.

From this course I have come to see that there are multiple ways for people to learn, I for one, learn hands on, I'm going to try and teach them in a way that they can learn through my eyes, so they can implement what they're taught from me in my class.

Understand your students perspective and goals.

I learned that it is important to consider differences in age and backgrounds. I learned the importance of being understanding of extrinsic situations while maintaining academic and professional expectations.

Talk directly with the students. Be a good listener but don't get sucked into the complaint with them

Every student is different and will have unique needs. Learning about each student will help plan the lessons and teach the course.

The importance of drawing from life experiences to make content relatable.

Discussing goals and needs are important

It is important to realize the different motivations that students have for attending school.  These reasons will affect how those students learn and how we should interact with them.

I have learned to view a student as a whole/ multiple charateristics to develop a greater understanding towards guiding them through their education.

Comment on Angela Johnson's post: Absolutely. They each have different reasons for returning to school and we cant help them to achieve those goals if we dont know what they are.

We learn as much from students as they learn from us. They give us a perception that maybe we had not considered. Students need engagement from instructors and faculty need to understand their students motivation to succeed.

I learned the difference in how to approach young adult learners versus older adults. This course was very informative.

I have learned it is very important to understand and develop the strengths of a diversified class.  Youthful learners have a great deal to contribute, but so do mature learners.  These strengths of students can greatly enhance the learning environment.

I understand it is very important to know the individual needs of my students in order for them to reach their greatest potential. I understand the value of youthful learners and more mature learners.

The importance of seeing the classroom from the student's perspective

And instructor needs and expectations with the students can really help an instructor in the end.

Discussion needs and expectations with your students can really help an instructor in the end.

I have learned that getting to know my students on a more personal level and discussing with them their career goals, also helps me to be a better facilitator and guide to assist them in reaching those goals.

One first take away for me involves the three parts of developing career goals from the Personal Circumstances section.  I think we need to know how to develop a career goal personally and know how to walk students through identifying and walking towards a career goal.  Engaging them personally on this topic will help me as an instructor know if they are going in the right direction.  Some students have a general direction and don't realize there are specific areas they can pursue further.
