What i have pulled away, is the importance of not only a good structure. But developing a support system for both instructor and student.

Body language, tone, and words are all key components of effectively communicating with others. Learning how to utilize all three components to compliment each other can help you have successful conversations.

I reviewed the importance of ensuring you are familiar with the course structure and assignments so you can best support your students.

This will be helpful in better organizing phone conversations as they come in and fielding the various questions from potential students.

It is important to be familiar with the content and the program that will be used to deliver content so that instructors may help with the ease of an online class.

The distance learning courses are more than one aim and it has been used as a teacher preparation method with teacher extensive face to face preparation.

I understand that a virtual course must have minimum elements to ensure its quality for student learning, however the key to the training process is in the CMS, as an online instructor, I must know the elements of the course and advise students during the process of learning promoting participation, responding to interventions according to institutional commitment

I have familiarized myself with the different tools and platforms, most importantly the CMS, available to the instructor.  I understand the expectations of the course and the importance of following the preset structure.  Additionally, good two way communication with the students to understand any challenges they may face.

I am taking away the importance of communication with students while using this online platforms. This means learning the different means of communication, being transparent with deadlines and expectations, and holding myself accountable to timely responses and deadlines.

I have learned that support, engagement, and instructor interaction is crucial to student success. Online learning is challenging especially if there is a fear of technology. Students will need as much support as possible to be successful and it starts with their instructors.

I learned that given the same goals for a course, different instructors are likely to take different approaches to teach toward those goals. They are likely to adopt different instructional strategies, examples, and assignments as well as assessment measures. Therefore, even though you bring extensive knowledge of the subject matter being addressed in the course, it is extremely important for you to comprehend the nature of the course content.

I learned how there are many different techniques to on-line learning. I also learned that communication is key.

Course delivery encompasses much more than the teaching style of the instructor. It depends on the environment of the course, the learning material presented to students, and the means of communication between the class and the instructor. There are many elements that contribute to the overall success of the course and how well it is received.

What i learned from this course was the importance of knowing the different needs of students in online learning. Also understanding what is expected of me as an instructor as being that support so students may have the confidence that they will succeed. I plan to understand the basis of my CMS, so i can help support as much as i can for the benefit of my students.

Very important for the instructor to be learned in the technical aspects of the platform in order to change content at will, and be able to help the student with the technicality of the platform, which will decrease unneeded frustrations.

I personally enjoyed taking online courses because some courses give more freedom to the student to learn at their own pace in a way. But also understanding the need to be tech savvy as well because some students really do struggle with online courses and being able to navigate course work. Also it is good for students to know what works best for them and their learning styles.

To ensure better communication, I am developing a list of Refined statements to incorporate into my email so there isn't any confusion.

I have a planned list of items to cover in my Face 2 Face meetings and stick to my list and answers questions that relate to topics so we don't go off track.

I do limited phone conversations - but in virtual meetings, I have a list or agenda of items to cover.

I believe knowing the system that the college is offering online courses on is important because we will know how to troubleshoot any problem. Students like to know that there is a human behind the screen that is willing to help them if help is needed. Therefore, being available to students is important.

Comment on Christena Meier's post: Right, I believed that tone was more important as well. But when you think about having your arms crossed could cause someone to assume you have an attitude or are upset about something.

As a professional, it is critical that we have a deep understanding of how to navigate the course. All the tool needed to help and solve issues that may arise. I enjoyed the recap of important point to deliver the best lessons possible in conjunction with the communication needed to assist in the students success.
