Taking time to learn how to pronounce students names and brief overview of subject being taught. 

Its important for instructors to learn their students name because your students will feel more valued if you are able to address all of them by name.

Being relatable to your students will always be a plus in the classroom. I believe have open discussion relieves nervousness and anxiety in the classroom.

Personalization and getting to know students benefits both you and them. It will make you more appraochable and enable you to get to know your students better to better help them later. 

On the first day of class the students should be greeted for their comfort.  They must have a proper syllabus explaining course goals and expectations.  It is essential to inspire students with encouragement.  Try to open a dialogue with a simple pre-test about their goals.

First day of class I had students pair up into twos and interview(get to know) each other and then present each other to the class. Great Ice breaker.

Learning student names and how to pronounce them is very important to keeping the students engaged and involved.

Getting a feel of the classroom, breaking the nervousness and understanding that each student is different in their own way is important.
