Activity

Showing excitement and enthusiasm towards the subject you are teaching will help students stay motivated and retain information better.

Use stories and experiences to make what students are learning relatable. This is will better help with information retention by being able to see how what they are learning translates in the real world.

I love the thought of bringing attention to light hearted things such as starting the class with a joke or pointing out the different "National Days." It is so true that adults love something that lets them feel light hearted and free if even for just a few moments.

Having lots of open discussion during lectures is a great way for students to learn not only from you but from each other. I believe this will also help in retention of information as well.

Vary your teaching style to accommodate as many students as possible. Try breaking lectures up into 15-18 minute increments divided by some sort of class discussion or break.

Its important for instructors to learn their students name because your students will feel more valued if you are able to address all of them by name.

Getting to class early before any of the students not only allows you to make sure you have everything ready to go in order for the class to move more smoothly, but also shows the students the type of professionalism you you have as an instructor and the type of professionalism you expect in return from your students.

Lead by model but at the same time do not assume you are the smartest person in the room because chances are you are not.
