I practice these activities with new classes. I have the students introduce themselves, why they chose the class and do you they have expectations or a goal for the class. I learn the class names quickly by taking attendance, repeating their name and observing during the first two days to make each student familiar. Great activity suggestions to create team involvement and making students comfortable in a new class.
Giving the students the opportunity to share a few insights about themselves as well as career aspirations give them a chance to know each other better. The instructor should also share about their professional pathways.
I will be excited to meet my class for the first time, especially because I was a student in the same program that I will be teaching. I feel that my personal experience of the program will help to build connection with the students and help them to know that with my other professional experiences that I will be sharing, they have the opportunity to make this career as great as the want for it to be.
I love the idea of a pretest to help prepare students for what will be on the actual exam.
For your first impression on the students the first day you may want to stablish a connection using your field experience. You may want to get some insights from each student to have a better idea of each student's level of interest in the subject and start building motivation by giving clear directions and expectations for the student as well as a clear understanding of your role as a instructor, mentor and facilitator.
Meeting the class for the first time is the day you set boundaries as well as get to know your students as well as they get to know you.
On the first day of class we should set clear expectations for the class, aswell as learning the students names.
Give the students a brief overlook on your past experience so they can get to know your background, and have a sense of confidence in their instructor.
Make sure students have a sense of belonging while in the class. Make sure they know where they are going as far as class achievements.
Knowing students names is valuable and helps create relationships that improve their overall learning experience.
A good impression last a life time. Getting to know my students and having them know me and my background and experience that will enable their learning and making it fun.
It's always good to break the ice with your students by sharing your experience with them so they feel comfortable in your classroom.
I like to start the class by getting to know something about each one of my students. It allows the students to introduce themselves to their peers. It's also a great way to "break the ice" and create a comfortable environment.
I learned that I should get to know my students in different ways to ensure that they know I know them and they are comfortable in classroom. Make sure that they have an idea of what they will learn and which tools they will need to understand and the complete skill.
Learning students' names and making sure they leave the first class with a clear expectation and level of comfortability that leaves them excited and wanting to come back and learn.
This module taught me that the first class meeting is crucial for setting the tone, establishing expectations, and creating a positive learning environment. Key takeaways include the importance of making a strong first impression, clearly communicating course objectives and policies, and building rapport with students. I also learned effective strategies for engaging students from the start, such as icebreakers, interactive discussions, and outlining what they can expect from the course. I plan to apply this knowledge by being well-prepared for the first class, presenting myself professionally, and fostering an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. I will clearly explain course expectations, encourage student participation, and set a collaborative tone that promotes active learning. By doing so, I can help students feel comfortable, motivated, and ready to engage with the course material.
By taking the time to learn students names and engaging with them it is important because it will make them feel more comfortable which will provide a better environment for them to learn.
I like to get to know the student by asking an open-ended question. Their thoughts, and how they answered, will allow me to remember faces and personality before names, yet it empowers individuality and compliance, because they feel as if the instructor knows them and cares.
A good first impression will leave a lasting impression for the students for the rest of the term. Always take the time to get to know the students and that the students feel safe to get to know one another. A comfortable classroom produces success.
What I will take form this lesson is that meeting your class for the first time that we should get to know each other by introducing ourselves. Making sure we are ready and prepared for all students. We want this student to feel welcomed and that we are going to have a fun term.
