During the first meeting, it is helpful to create a positive and engaging environment using strategies such as administering a short pre-test to assess students’ knowledge, providing tension-relieving activities to help students get to know each other, and beginning to learn their names to create a personal connection. Encouraging group exercises promotes collaboration, and providing opportunities for students to interact helps create a sense of community. These actions set the tone for a collaborative and supportive learning experience.

Remember, the three M’s of modeling, managing, and motivating will be of great assistance to you and the class on this first day.

Introduce yourself and share some personal or professional information about yourself. Describe the class subject and an overview of what we will be learning and its relevance. If it is a large class, plan a quick game for students to become familiar with one another to help ease the tension of unfamiliarity

Finding ways to keep the learning both interactive and engaging for the students will help to break up the monotony of lecture as well as to encourage the students to participate and also get to know each other.

The concept of a pretest, in my opinion, will assist students in preparing for the actual course exams.

The first meeting is very important. It is the best time to set boundaries and class expectations. It is also great for getting to know a bit about your students and for them to get to know a bit about you.

It is beneficial to provide a brief introduction about yourself, perhaps sharing a positive story. Also encourage students to share a little about themselves. This helps create a welcoming environment where everyone is included.

Introducing yourself to the students with background and expertise will give the students an idea of what to expect in the class. Having the students introduce themselves and also give a bit of background will also help the instructor kind of feel where the students motivation is coming from and the eagerness to be in the class. Breaking the ice with this introductory meeting will help both parties engage more and be on board with the class.

Having students introduce themselves on the first day of class, will assist the instructor to recognize how the student is going to fit in the course.

Introducing yourself, give a brief introduction of your experience in the field you are teaching, the student will feel comfortable knowing that you have the experience to help them be successful in their chosen field.  Providing the students with handouts relevant to the material been taught, guiding the students with tips on how to take notes for passing exams course, also gives student motivation to continue aiming for 100% completion of the program.

Meeting he class for the first tie sets the tone for the course. Even though I am a professional in my field, I am new to teaching in front of a class, but the students are new in their educational journey as well and its my responsibility to make them feel welcomed and know they will be supported.

I learned to set the general tone of your classroom in the beginning ,introducing yourself and making sure the students are aware of the rules, policies, syllabus and expected guidelines for the course.

Introduce yourself and let student tell something about themselves, help reduce class anxiety.

This module reminded me of the importance of introductions on day one. Initial introductions provide a foundation for class unity as they gain knowledge together that can be a source of motivation.

Personally, I like the 3 m's Model, Manage and Motivation ...... in my classroom I want to model professionalism, and be able to manage my students and motivate them to always to their best !!!

When I took courses to get certified for work, I really enjoyed the introductions. Getting to know the instructor and classmates helps reduce the nervousness.

Arrive early meet your students with a smile and learn there names

We currently use this at the beginning of each phase, it makes the transition between different class or Instructors much smoother. It makes the students more comfortable with us as Instructors and one another. It allows Instructors another method of identifying potential students who may accel and those that may require extra support.

Arrive early!

Create a welcoming environment by welcoming them as they enter the classroom. Create a positive first impression.

Introduce the yourself and the course with a formal introduction and background of your experiance. review syllabus, icebreaker and allow for student introductions.

Establish classroom expectations by reviewing rules and procedures, setting tone and encouraging questions.

I practice these activities with new classes. I have the students introduce themselves, why they chose the class and do you they have expectations or a goal for the class. I learn the class names quickly by taking attendance, repeating their name and observing during the first two days to make each student familiar.  Great activity suggestions to create team involvement and making students comfortable in a new class.
