About me

Hello! I'm so excited to be a member of ECPI University. I began my calling/career as a nurse in 1978, working as a nursing assistant while attending Greenville Tech in their ADN program. I had two toddlers so it was very challenging. Upon completion of my Nursing Boards, I was hired as an RN in the Birthplace to include L&D, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery and Gyn surgeries. I also rotated Med/Surg and Peds. I enjoyed providing care in all these areas due to the diversity of patients I cared for. In 2019 I was approached to accept a new position as campus Clinical IT Administrator. I assumed this role until the management position came open on Birthplace. Birthplace was my love so I began a new path as the Birthplace Nurse Manager to a LDRP unit. In 2005 I transferred to Greenville Memorial as the Nurse Manager of Women's High Risk OB/GYN.

After approximately 7 years the nurse manager position at Baptist Easley Hospital became open again and my heart lead me back home. I worked Birthplace as Nurse Manager until they closed the unit in 2020.

I am truly enjoying being at ECPI and see so many potentials in assisting students to follow their individual paths in Nursing. Understanding the fast paced courses and sharing my experiences in acute care, I will strive to assist students to become the best nurse nursing has to offer!

Activity

Incorporate different learning styles, be creative, know my goals and communicate them at the beginning of each class. Remember the short periods of time that is optimal for a student to learn and create my lessons to be completed within those times. BE PREPARED. Best plans may become complicated.

Have a list of what I plan to cover. Making sure the syllabus and goals are included. Learn names and get to know the students. Introduce myself and my background for the ability to teach this course. Make the object of the course including the requirements, expectations and skills needed to complete the course. Set a professional, non-threatening environment for learning.

Clear Concise

  1. Preparation
  2. Preparing teaching space
  3. Know your course materials
  4. Define a syllabus
  5. Create a calendar with course content and due dates
  6. Share detailed goals and how they will be achieved
  7. Consult with other staff members on your syllabus, goals and materials which will be used for the class

Learning and continuing to learn are key components to successful teaching strategies in my class. If I am knowledgeable and comfortable with what I am teaching I will demonstrate one aspect of being professional. Managing and motivating students is also my job. I must be professional as I am encouraging, managing and motivating students for a successful learning environment. I must be prepared for class and demonstrate what I expect from students both in time management and communication.

Everyone has their own preference of learning styles. It's my job to be inventive, incorporating different styles to better meet the needs of the entire class.

Taking into consideration the secondary language is usually the weaker language, it is not reflective of the students' ability to learn or their mastering the subject. These students use both languages while taking a course.

I have enhanced my learning by remembering everyone is different, with different histories, life lessons, education, and personal experiences. Everything a person brings with them makes them unique and each learn differently. I will strive to incorporate different strategies to involve everyone in the learning experience.
