It's important to engage students in meaningful communication, taking into consideration the different personalities that each student may have, and working to engage each student. 

Balance time with online work.

Students need to be prepared to become a good online learner, as to some this does not come naturally. Communication skills are essential on both the instructor and the student for effective learning. 

I like the acronym CPA, which stands for Clear, Professional, and Appropriate. Explaining this to students early on can help them in all aspects of their lives.

Consistency, communication and responsibility play an important roll in effective learning. Students and instructors all doing their part in student success. Students that applied themselves and experiences along with instructors who applied their on the job experiences tends to make learning a lot more fun and easier for student to remember what they learnt.

Use clear and concise communication. Be aware of how the tone of your written words may appear. Foster a sense of community in the class.

Communicate clearly between instructor and student about expectations and goals.

Being aware of our tone and intention is critical with communication. 

It is important to teach students how to manage their time and develop a supporting online learning environment.

Utilize good communication and availability to your students. There are many different ways that you can support all different types of learners.

Not only is what you say important but how you say it as well.

I really like the idea of an exit slip to assist students in self-reflection for a specific class meeting time and a way to assess where individuals are struggling and succeeding week by week. 

We communicate in many ways: expressions, verbally, electronically, etc.  It is important to remember communication etiquette. 

From this module, I learned that there are a variety of ways for students to participate and engage in the material. Connecting the material to the student's personal lives may help the student brainstorm the content they are learning and implement a new way of thinking. This encourages honesty by thinking of their own experiences and may help avoid academic dishonesty.

For students to grasp the concept, there has to be a lot of engagement and communication. 

Online students need to be part of a community just like in-person students.  Encourage students to form study groups, to work together, and to ask questions.  Give tips for things like reading skills and listening skills.

Being and effective communicator is a two way street. We need to lead our students by setting the example. We also need to set clear expectations and ask that they share their expectations of us.  

I love having the community groups. Communication is key, and it must be clear, specific, professional, and respectful.

Preparing students to become good online citizens is essential to the integrity of their program. Communicating clearly defined expectations ensures a clear understanding of what is expected.
