The focus here in this module revolved around relationsips; student-student and instructor-student. It is important during the fist day of class to make introductions in order to establish a relationship. As the instructor, one have create a biography in a way in order to not only introduce ones self but further expand on knowldge pertaining to course, credentials, and experience.
The instructor-student relationship is critical in the online environment.
It is important to stablish instructor-student relationship by creating a getting-to-know-you assignment on the first day.
I learned that in projecting an authority relationship that I can showcase my expertise by sharing a short biography of myself that includes my professional expertise, credentials and achievements. Also, a good way to begin to foster an environment filled with trust, respect and consideration is to have students to complete a short biography and share some parts of it with the permission of the student.
I learned the importance of relating your professional strenghts and credentials to students.
GEtting to know our students and their unique needs, allows us to reach our students most effectively.
students feel a sense of security if they know someone is there to assist them with online learning.
Making the experience more personal for the student sets them up for a higher success rate.
A great way to express your experience and credentials.
Project your academic and professional experiences as well as your achievements. Encourage your students to share their own bibliography to support grouping and visiting one another.
I learned how important it is for me to project my professional and academic credentials to the students for trust. I also learned how important it is for the student to feel they have a support system.
Regardless of space or distance it still remains important for an online instructor to continue to assert their influence, presence, and authority as a teacher. It is important to still build that relational capacity with students, even in a virtual setting. Having students creat bios is one way of begining to accomplish this goal.
Great lesson ! Understanding who are students are so we can get to know them and treat them with respect is very important
The Knowlege of the Diversity amongst your students will provide excelllent relationships with their peers and yours.
I learn to preject my presence to my students by initiating, lead, monitor, and manage synchronized dicussions sessions.
We are relational. Students need to see that the instructor is more than just credentials and authority.
It is so important with E-learning instructors are part of the learning pocess and not just the teaching process.
It is important for your students to get to know the instructor via a biography (credentials/hobbies, etc.) and for the instructor to know the students via a biography as well. This will help to foster an environment where the student feels they are an individual and a sense of trust can begin to be established between the instructor and student.
While I think some aspects of the in-classroom environment translate to online, I don't think some of the synchronous activities work well for large classes.
E-lerning should be just as effective as in-person or residential learning. One of the first assignments that I have my students participate in is a biography to briefly introduce themselves. I direct them to mine as an example so if they did not read it initially they can review it and learn why I am qualified. This helps validate my credentials at the same time they have an example to refer to if they do not know how to complete the assignment. This gives me a little insight as to how they will be as a student too.
