The acceptance of late work (unless Justifiable) I feel sets the standard lower than necessary
Let students know what the expectations are for the class and stand on the rules without bending. Students must know where the lines are and what happens when goals and requirements are not met.

One thing I learned was with a syllabus using different colored paper, boxes around key points and different font types keeps the students visual interest. Also about ice breakers and the importance of using ice breakers at the start of a new class. It helps to get the students talking with each other and working together. I learned the importance of when a student is talking help build on what they said and make them feel intelligent.
What to do at the beginning of each class that I teach.
You must know your content and your students to have a successful class.
As a returning teacher (out of education for almost 20 years) it is a good reminder to engage the students and tailor the instruction to their preferred methods of learning. Additionally, the idea of addressing the 3 functions of cognitive, social, and psychomotor is a good way to engage each of the students strengths while building a group atmosphere.
I learned that most students say they miss submitting assignments because they were unaware of the due date. Thus, putting the assignment dates/times in the syllabus is a good way to have students be reminded of deadlines and to refer back at different times to stay organized and up to date with submission requirements.
Always make sure that my classroom expectations are clear and give reminders of due dates throughout the course.
I love the icebreaker activity where the students have to communicate and collaborate. They students are asked to talk about their professional interests, goals for the course, or personal interests.
I will set multiple reminders for due dates such as posting it on the board, on schoology, and the syllabus. Deducting points for the assignment being late is important and it will not always be the same students submitting late assignments.
What I have taken from this is to make sure I have something in place to show for missed assignments and late work.
I liked the reinforcement of connecting real-world scenarios with what students are learning because it will not only get them more engaged but also encourage more retention of what they are learning.

What's in it for me? Remembering that that is a NATURAL instinct. They're not slacking by approaching their classes this way!
A good review of my responsibilities at the beginning of a new class. Making a clear policy for late and missing assignments is a great idea. Having students each read sections of and ask questions on the syllabus has been effective with some cohorts.
I want to start blending the ice breakers with team building exercises.
I will add more information to my syllabus such as calendars and deadlines.
I learned that a student will be motivated when they have the responsibility of personalizing the content of the course. I will start to implement this activity. It is smart.
I really like the airplane game, I think I'll work that in somehow or as a filler for some curriculum. I also really like the idea of when I try new curriculum that I should always write down afterward how I thought it would go and how it went, so I can change it up and figure out what was missing or what I can improve.
