I've learned that general strategies for student retention focus on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. Building strong relationships with students, providing clear expectations, and offering regular feedback are key to keeping students motivated and involved. As a new instructor, I plan to apply this by being approachable, checking in with students regularly, and recognizing their progress. Small efforts like encouraging words or offering help when they struggle can go a long way in helping students stay committed and succeed.
Support is very vital to a student's overall success and personal growth. Every student should feel accepted and be treated fairly. You can develop plans of action specifically for a student based off of personal needs. Get to know the student's names and backgrounds and find time to share personal experiences with the class so they can get to know me as well. Greet and acknowledge every student. This could be what a student needs to get through their day. Ensure everyone participates and keep myself opened to learning approaches based off of students personalized needs. Hold high but realistic expectations and give them clear instructions on what they need to do to succeed in my course while offering rewards without creating a conflicting and competitive environment. Remember to have fun and make this learning experience a positive and memorable experience.
Engagement in the classroom requires the same interest the instructor hopes to foster towards the curriculum from the students be equal or greater to the interest the instructor has in on that same curriculum.
Get to know your students and start to build that rapport immediately. Help them set high but realistic goals for themselves. Show them that you care about the content through your enthusiasm. Learn to read the room to know when they need a short mental break by telling a joke or a short story.
As an instructor, it is very crucial to respect students by greeting them and addressing them by their names; show fairness, respect, and care for their expectations and needs; create friendly environment students' allowances for active participation; discuss the importance of students' specific careers; and provide daily reinforcement and recognition to students. These practices allow students to open up, develop rapport with instructors, be engaged in learning process, and feel included in classroom and in campus life.
Being that I am the greenest an instructor can be, I know that I will be leaning heavily on my life experiences personally and professionally. I want my students to understand that their success is my goal as their Instructor and although this is a structured process it does not have to feel that way.
Whenever an instructor is enthusiastic, it breaks the ice for the students, and creates an atmosphere for engagement and encourages students to share even when they are fearful.
Be confident motivative and fun to help students relax and have fun learning.
Being enthusiastic about what you are teaching helps people stay calm when learning new things.

How to utilize my own carrier experiences in relation to what they might be going through in class and how to overcome issues they might have in order to achieve success .
being confident in the field to be studied that day, while bringing up your own job experiences good, or bad, even funny is a good way to get a class asking questions about the subject at hand.
Keep up with my passion and drive of my career field and the care for teaching and soon the students will take notice and want that same drive and passion.
Mix up the types of presentations of content along with 10-15 mini lessons to keep the students engaged.
From this lesson or module I was able to see the need for being candid with your students. Its importance for the right timing when to exercise this is key to allow your students to help settle in to the class and look forward to the days lesson. I'll definitely look for non-traditional holidays during the block and hopefully can have a few laughs to relive the pressures of being adults.
Comment on Mindy Hodge's post: This is exactly what I felt from this lesson. Thanks for expressing this fluently here.
