The course was full of useful information. Everyone has the desire to feel heard and like they belong in the classroom. Creating a proper learning environment that makes students of different ages and backgrounds feel safe and comfortable is critical. While supporting their individual desires to better themselves. Working with people and helping better themselves is a wonderful experience, getting to know the individual and their learning style. It is always good remember to maintain a Professional Teaching environment, so the students get the most out of it and don't feel like they're wasting their time.
I think this was good information. A lot of this was stuff I already knew.
the amount of time that an instructor will be in front of his/her students will determine the kind of interactions, for example one month versus 3 months. In the case of 1 month, the journey, destination and activities will be the key to retention because its either they are board or not. Requesting that the ship be turned around will cause in-securities for everyone else.
great read i will use some of these methods
This section of the course reminded me of the importance of learning about why my students enrolled in the program as well as what their individual backgrounds and experience include. By beginning with this information I can better anticipate the students needs and understand their frustrations when they arise, allowing me an opportunity to help the student before they are in a position of leaving the course. I also learned how important structure is to my classroom and how a "coddling" or "babysitting" mentality harms the class environment.
Maslow hierarchy of needs has been an age-old philosophy, used to understand the importance aspects of our students, as it relates to their characteristics.
Adult students come with enthusiasm to learn, and need educational supports that are unique to their situations.
The presence of diverse cultural and life experiences poses challenges for instructors in effectively establishing connections with every student, comprehending their career aspirations, and involving them through innovative teaching methodologies. Embracing a non-traditional approach to instruction can potentially yield mutual success for both students and instructors. The foundation for achieving this lies in cultivating a rapport of trust between students and instructors. Such a rapport fosters an environment wherein students feel comfortable unveiling their thoughts, concerns, challenges, and other pertinent aspects to an instructor.
I think cultural compentency is vital
This course was helpful to better understand students needs and to help them succeed. No student is the same, and we need master a techneque that will reach out to all of them. Don't allow your students to suck you in to thier frustrations.
Comment on Adam Leffell's post: every student is different says a lot. You need to find out what makes them tick when it comes to the classroom setting.
It is very important to understand students on an individual level to gain a better understanding of the teaching style they will be more receptive to.
Teaching case vs class is a powerful concept because linking the material to personal experiences enhances engagement of the students. I also never thought about the power of ego-status as an extrinsic student need until this course. I often push to be ambitious but never think about the social reward outcome that can be the driving factor for student success.
Understanding my student group, which may involve a variety of ages and life experiences that can add to the learning content and perspectives.
Lived experiences contribute to the adlut learner's grasp of material and motivation to succeed.
i learned how to understand student perspective, how to use life experiences to help understand circumstances that a student may be in..
I have learned to pay attention to all the students, and if i see one falling behind, Find out what is going on and try to send them to the department that will be able to help them , so they can stay focased on finishing their education.
As a result of completing this module, I feel more equipped with regards to how I can accentuate the significance of having students both share and incorporate their unique experiences and histories into their work.
Understanding each student's perspective helps to best educate them.
Communication and understanding is key. Knowing more about background and learning styles is something I'm working on.
