Consistently utilize all of the different learning types
I like the idea of mini lectures consisting of 15-18 minutes. This allow students the opportunity to not only learn the content but also retain it.
Cater your teaching to different learning styles.
Planning and preparing is key.
I learned in this module that having only one teaching style isn't as effective as having several teaching styles to accommodate all learning types. I learned that it is also a good idea to have several teaching styles because different learning activities could keep the students engaged in learning objectives.
a plan is our compass for the course, and vary your teaching style is a good idea becouse the student would learn a different ways to get things done.
I'm going to try and implement the "changing your class opening" tactic for my classes. I like to start most classes with a quote, but sometimes I think changing it up would be a good thing for class engagement. Such as starting a class with a problem statement or startling fact.
Different styles of student learning
- Written words- writing down information and reading
- Auditory- Listening
- Visual- Sending pictures, diagrams and illustrations
- Tactile- touch with eyes, hands and body coordination
These different student learning styles are helpful in assisting how you will lecture your class to get the information across.
It is important to develop content because students learn in different ways.
I've learned that to develop my own lesson plan. I need the following: lesson content, unit title, instructional goals, why do they need to learn this? What do I want them to learn? How will I teach them? List any necessary materials and aids, and evaluate lesson effectiveness afterwards.
I am learning effective ways to engage multiple students at one time by varying the method of information delivery.
There are different ways to teach
After this course, I plan to put much more time and effort into my lectures ahead of time and incorporate more variety, while balancing retaining some predictability so students stay comfortable.
Be sure to keep the sections of study to 15 to 20 min, you don't want to loose the class. prepare, prepare, prepare. Practice what is in your curriculum in front of a mirror and take notes on the changes that you are needing to change.
Provide different learning opportunities and styles..... and practice.
I've learned the importance of varying teaching methods to ensure that students of all different learning types are able to access the material
Many students don't like to voice a question after a lecture or to be called out. The 3x5" card distributed before class so they can write their questions down and collected at the end of class can be answer the next class is a good idea.
There are many different types of learning types and learner styles that can accommodate all different people.
Always prepare for a demonstration prior to having the students to the demonstration with the class.
Students learn by taking in content/theory, questioning assumptions and learning about their selves.
