Activity

Using a demonstration that is interactive really helps break the lecture up and helps student get up and move. In our school most students learn best by doing anyways.

Introductions are fun for both me and the students. Sometimes even if students have been in other classes before, they may not know that another student lives in the same town or drives the same car.

Preparation is key. You should have a well organized classroom, a clear syllabus, and be early and know your subject. Our school is very fast paced, so having our models and display carts in the class ahead before it starts is critical. Wasting time by having to run out and grab another example takes away from the lecture.

Being an effective instructor means that I set the example. If I am late all the time, a student might think its also ok. Our school has a very strict professionalism policy that us as instructors uphold as well. We keep up to date with current practices through trainings on our own time.
This course was a good re-iteration of qualities we already uphold.
