The importance of arriving early and being prepared to facilitate student learning.

It is important to plan and prepare before a class because it allows you to be productive, make the most of your time and optimize your resources.

Have a checklist and a notepad handy every day to make sure I don't forget something or take notes for next time.

You need to plan and have checklist to stay on point and focused so that if last minute questions come about and or something goes off topic you have a checklist to fall back on to get back on track. That is why having a syllabus is important cause it keeps everyone on check.

I learned that the syllabus is a great way to hold students accountable. Setting clear expectations in the beginning is necessary to avoid confusion later on in the semester.

Comment on Justin Markle's post: I also find a checklist very helpful in order to make sure that I cover the important tasks for the days. I encourage the students to use checklists for their study and review purposes.

Learning the ABCD of teaching.

The biggest take away for me in this unit was the ABCD model for drafting learning objectives. This is something I will likely use weekly as I write out our learning criteria for each week. For me, having a better constructed objective using the ABCD method will ensure that I am setting up my classes for success while also better clarifying my students of our goals for the week and how they can achieve them.

Throughout this module, I have learned that it is so important to be prepared and concise throughout the learning course for the students. This includes giving them a detailed syllabus in the beginning of the course, and ensuring that they know their deadlines/what is expected of them throughout the course in order to be successful. It is also important to show your students that you are dedicated to them and their learning experience.

Having a good plan for each class is very important. Having a list of specific goals for each class meeting is helpful to stay on track, but also allow some flexibility in your plan so time can be taken to assist students that may be struggling with the material being covered.

Be prepared with lesson plans and be prepared for anything unplanned that may come up

How to prepare objectives

It helps to have a checklist so that you know what has been discussed or dealt with and what still needs to be addressed. Also it would be handy to keep a notepad to jot down anything that comes up that needs to be addressed later on so that you don't forget.

that it extremely important to prepare your students

Communication with students is extremely important.  In order for a student to do well in the course, he/she needs to know the expectations of the course, which is usually communicated through a syllabus.  I will make sure my syllabus contains everything a student would need to know to be successful.

Making sure the students understand the syllabus and course objectives.

It is important  to have a plan, communicate, define policies, rules and expectations and share them with our students so they know how they will be measure.

Preparation is key to success. Doing the necessary work to prepare for the class and having everything completed. lined up and ready to go is much of the work. By doing this, the instructor is set up for success. I also am reminded to come to class 30 minutes (or more) early to have everything set up and ready to go and able to meet and greet students as they come in. Set the tone, give students clear objectives and a roadmap to be successful in the class.

The module was very important because it is all about planning and the important work done before the class.  I forget who said it but it reminds me of the old adage, those who fail to plan, plan to fail.

Checklists, especially on the first day of class, can ease nerves and help the students settle in.
