Lesson plan

Lesson plans are important because its a guideline for the students and instructor for the entire course. The procedure section is most used in the lesson plan and its important to make it detailed yet allow some flexiblity to the lesson.

Getting to know your students

I found that sharing my experiences as an ice breaker helps student to open up and share about there experiences and interest. This gives me a way to connect with the students and understand where they are coming from better.

Professionalism points

Can you explain the use of professional points more?

timing your presentation

I found that the only way to get your timing down is by doing the presentation over and over again, fine tuning it so to speak.

Coping with various student skill levels

Hi, wondering how other instructors deal with various skill levels when students are enrolled in a class. For example, I'm teaching an MSWord 2010 course with several students who have already had experience. Granted, I have plenty of things to show them that they don't know, but they tend to get bored going through the first few chapters. Any tips on what to do with them?

Informing students of status in course

Placement test before the beginning of the class will help the instructor prepare the course materials and exam.

Importance of being prepared

It is important to have a plan B in case something goes wrong with the class.

Selecting instructional media

It is important to select the correct media for the right course. I will try to indruduce media in my future courses.

Organized and prepared to teach

When we spent more time organizing introducing the course becomes easier.

Extra credit

The issue of extra credit has come up for me a couple of times. In both cases, I had a student who was failing my course come to me near the end of the term and ask for extra credit so she could pass. In both cases I said no to this request due to her poor grade being a result of not coming to class and not doing any of her assignments. Does everyone think I made the right decision in those cases?

extra learning opportunities

Finding ways to expand the depth of projects tends to keep faster students engaged.

ED109, lesson plans

I feel that lesson planning (as in my situation) that constitute 6 or more hours of lecture, planning and schedueling are important. However, I also think that appropriate breaks out of the classroom IE: 30 min or even more every 2-hours to apply practical hands on exercises having to do with or in conjunction with the lecture material are even more appropriate than the lecture material. all day in the classroom is too much.

desired learning outcome

I have been using what we term as a "desired learning outcome" IE: what is expected to be learned from a particuler segment of the lesson plan? then we discuss the end result in order to gather input from the students actively involved in the course curriculem.

Lecture Time

Lecture time should consist of more than just reading to your students

Integrating Instructional Aids

Resources avaiable to insgtructors now provide us with an array of insteructional aids that complement lecture and allow the students to engage in new and revelent technologies.

Taxonomy of learning

This type of learning tool demonstraqtes what should take place in a student's learning experince in the class room.

Lesson Plan Objectives

I find that clear, concise, and simple lesson plans with time lines are very beneficial for additioanl review and teaching.

Lesson Planning Strategies

Pre-testing and learning about students experiences are essential to developing revelent lesson plans that will keep the students stimulated and engaged in class room learning.

testing

I give a 5 question test at the begining each new class to assess how much they know. Then I get them to write a short paragraph on what they think is important about the classes. believe it or not I get alot of insite out of this.

Time

Time management is very important in lesson planning.
