lesson plans

I think lesson plans should be update on a regular base. Sometime the book does not really have anything to do with what I am teaching.

time management

I have to agree that time management is one of the most important things as an instructor. I use a lot of "to do" list and try extremely hard to stay on task. I also feel that my organizational skills help with my time management. I have everything in binders or folders.

Time Management

Always have enough material to cover that subject. If you run out of time, always start the next session where you left off from.

Organization is Key to Student Success

Organization is so important to students' success. When an instructor is organized, all of the objectives can be met and the "gray area" moments during class can be filled instead of having to run to the copy machine in order to make copies are fumbling around with the projector to project a PowerPoint presentation.

Field Trips

I have done several field trips for my students. But to get them all to agree due to transportation is very hard. Do you have any suggestions on how to present it so they will agree and be more enthusiastic about it?

RATIONALE

This is the first time I have seen RATIONALE on a lesson plan format , is this the same as MOTIVATIONAL STEPS , I use motivational steps as one of the content of my lesson plan which is important to get the students exited and really interested in the lesson presentation.

RATIONALE by Bernell Dunn

first time i have seen RATIONAL as an area of a lesson plan format ,I used MOTIVATIONAL STEPS . as an area .IS this the same as RATIONAL and should'nt this comes before the presentation steps . to get the students exited before the lesson.

Lesson plans on a portal?

What is the best format for modern students. Students that are very computer savvy and some thing they can use on there phone?

Creating an Evaluation System

Creating an Evaluation System, the one I use the most is the point system. Gives students a variety of different ways to be evaluated. Also they don’t have all their eggs in one basket. Evenly distributes the grades for fair evaluation.

Troubleshooting Instructional Strategies

The best part of Troubleshooting Instructional Strategies is understanding how to assess the different learning abilities of your class. Then develop your strategies and a way measure their effectiveness. This will help in understanding different techniques to class instructions.

Extra Credit

This one seems to be the territory to the lower scoring segment of the student population. The ones that fear for thier grade. I agree that extra credit is for everyone and it needs to be administered to ensure the learning objectives are laid out and accomplished for each student. Hard exams are a good area to put extra credit questions as some may welcome the chance to net zero a few wrong answers.

Pre-Test

I never thought of the pre-test method. This gives some really good information as to the direction the class may have to go, as well as it gives the student information on what they should already know in order to understand the content.

Electronic Student

Now a days, students have a hard time going 5 minutes without looking at thier life on the phone. Modern delivery is needed these days as well as breaks that allow them to deal with whatever needs attention and bring them back to cover more material, until it is time to repeat the process

Organization

When you look back it is easy to see who were the prepared teachers and who were not in ones past. Another great comparison is the difference in what you learned in each situation

Abrupt Change of Lesson Plan

When teaching certain topics, I have on more than one occasion had to make an abrupt change of the lesson plan. In a communications class, I realized that the students were getting bored of repetition, and I had to borrow some material from another lesson to make the topic of the day a little bit more interesting. This worked for me and I have since done it again.

Guest Lecturers

I think there is great value in having guest lecturers in your classroom! Invite a colleague (we have the ultrasound instructor give a lecture to our students during their diagnostic imaging course, and the cardiovascular instructor or advanced CV students teach EKGs, and the dental hygiene folks give a demo on dental rads) or local professional or former student or industry rep to give a guest lecture! Your students will get new perspectives, make connections in their field, see different options of jobs w/in their field and they enjoy the novelty of having somebody new speaking to them. Plus, you'll enjoy the vocal rest... :)

Rubrics

A rubric grading format is a great way to assess a students preformance in a clear and fair way.

Lesson Plans

A lesson plan is a great tool in the flow of a class period. It may not always follow the time scheme, but it keeps you on track.

Added Value Resources

I think that additional resources (current) are a great tool to engage students into learning outside of the text. I feel that students get caught up in thinking that their text is only resource that is available to them.

admiting mistakes.

Students see instructors as though we know everything and we are always right. I let the students know when I am wrong, it's my way of saying that I am human too.
