I will expand my biography to include all of my achievements.
It is important to establish credibility by projecting your presence. One of my initial announcements is the Instructor Introduction where students can read my academic credentials, educational experience and background, as well as get a bit of insights into my personal life.
Having the instructor provide a biography as well as the students is a good way for instructors to establish an authority online and for students to get to know each other.
creating an online authority and presence is a skill that needs to be practiced while still making yourself, as an instructor, approachable and have students understand that you available to help.
Encourage students to connect with each other, especially if they live nearby. Building those relationships can turn into study buddies, carpool crews, or even lifelong friendships. The more they collaborate, the more they’ll learn, and not just from you, but from each other too.
I've learned that scheduled reminders are a good way to make your presence known.
As an instructor, you should be upfront with your students, answer their questions honestly, and if you do not know the answer let them know that you will find out. Get to know them and let them get to know you. Share your biography and your interests, encourage your student to get to know each, especially if they live in the same areas. With doing this they can collaborate and help each other in their learning process and share insights with each other.
Understanding that instructors must provide and establish relationships and boundaries.
What I can take from this course is that show who you are to build their trust in your knowledge. Give them confidence to who they are as they navigate from a distance but I am still here for you.
I learned about the importance of a strong online presence. This can include using biographies and encouraging students to make their own biographies to elicit interaction and discussion. Additionally, prompt return emails in a 24-hour period help students to feel supported throughout the course.
I learned that in order for an instructor to learn about his/her students, students should be encouraged to post a short biography of themselves to be shared with everyone.
From this module, I learned key ways to maintain a strong instructor presence online, such as leading discussions, managing projects, engaging in forums, and responding quickly to students. I plan to apply these strategies to create a more interactive and supportive e-learning experience.
Both instructors and students can benefit form online learning by adding short biographies in the LMS. Posting short biographies is a way of introducing oneself to their class and instructor thereby, building relationships. It is imperative to create a welcoming environment to learn from each others diverse backgrounds and skill set; transparency breeds trust.
I learned to work on making my presence for the online courses known with more consistency in communication. I plan to do this by simply scheduling times to send out announcements that the students will see to know that I am here to support them.
Reach out to each student and let them know you are accessible and available for questions. Your goal as the instructor is to encourage them and help them along the way - while building their confidence.
Sharing professional and personal experience with online students helps learning outcomes
I video record my announcements including my instructor introduction and have always received great feedback from that connection to the students. It's a great way to put a face to a name.
From this module, I have learned the importance of using tone, body language, and eye contact to create a strong, authentic presence in virtual settings.
I learned strategies to project experience, accomplishments in an online classroom.
