Clear and direct communication of expectations, deadlines, and objectives is the most effective way to discern the initial level of participation, thus giving a fairly accurate gauge of each student's learning and participation style. 

This module has been the most helpful and enlightening so far, especially in terms of adding graded incentives to promote participation instead of removing them as to alleviate pressure-- but being able to keep them engaged in the real-time discussions and not being distracted or feeling dominated in conversation. 

Using discussion posts to further integrate your students with each other will help create a sense of security in their learning, as well as develop a sense of security in you as an instructor for facilitating safe spaces for them to address their grasp of material. 

the structure of the online learning environment requires a more thorough understanding of how to access information and be able to concisely deliver it to students.
