Making sure that I lead by example in my speech and my interaction with both the students and my peers.
Being prepared and ready to start the class on time. This will help the students see the need to follow this example when they graduate and start their careers.
I have learned that showing up for the students and modeling the expectation we have for them is very important. This also builds trust and integrity with the students.
I learned that continuing education and research is going to be the key to learning how to combine my technical competence, professional competence, and personal competence into a respectable, professionally competent instructor. I will work hard to develop an instructional style that will motivate my students without overwhelming them, and will allow them to thrive, while building the best rapport possible.
For me, the biggest takeaway is the importance of continuous reflection and growth. As an instructor, I want to regularly assess what works well in my classroom and what needs adjustment. I plan to use student feedback and self-reflection after each lesson to make improvements.
My personal experience with teaching has come from a more informal background doing workshops and teaching disciplines where students are seated on the floor in a circle. Coming into a formal space considered "institutional learning" has provided new awareness on the presentation of self as an instructor. Honestly, it is not that different even though the environments are vastly different. Having clear boundaries along with a warm rapport with students can create a safe atmosphere for learning to take place. Being very much involved in the presentation can pique interest in the subject being delivered. All of the examples provided in this lesson made me realize that these tips are ways to reduce distractions and interference to learning.
I learned that being and instructor is not just about teaching but also continually growing and leading by example as well as encouraging.
Modeling behavior that reflects professional and responsible behavior is essential to success. Organizing class discussions, maintaining a professional appearance and attending appointments on time area all examples of being an effective instructor.
Being organized and having well thought out plans will help the class run smoothly.
Being a motivator, manager, and model are all important components of an effective instructor.
I have learned that it is important to develop a well thought out professional development plan and the specific actions to take to carry it out. This will help me grow as a teacher and improve in some aspect of teaching every year.
I've learned that the soft skills of classroom management and professionalism are key areas to set the tone of the classroom for my students. It is as important as knowledge of the content being taught.
In this module, I learned that developing as an instructor is really about being flexible and studen-focused. It's not just about delivering information, but creating an inclusive environment where students feel engaged and supported. I realized how important it is to reflect on my own teaching style, and to be open to feedback.
I learned that effective teaching means focusing on student engagement, clear communication, and flexibility in instructional methods. This module reminded me that my role is not just to deliver content but to create an active, supportive learning environment. I plan to apply this by incorporating more interactive strategies and regularly reflecting on my teaching to better meet student needs.
The model is for everyday use. I try to use these methods in everyday practice. So, I feel I can probably utilize these skills with my students.
I learned about how to be professional when it comes to looking the part and also being the part. I also learned that we need to support, guide and cheer on our students when they feel like giving up.
I enjoyed this session very much. The information is the basics for a successful career. I look forward to using this knowledge and working on my professional development plan.
Model: Instructors serve as role models the moment they step into the classroom; students observe their professionalism and decide whether to emulate it.
Manager: Instructors must maintain professional boundaries and avoid becoming “pals,” as this undermines the instructor–student relationship.
Motivator: The best way to inspire students is to show them their progress toward career goals and create opportunities to apply new knowledge and skills immediately, fostering excitement and engagement.
