I have learned that I must reflect on my previous instructors, both good and bad, and draw from the lessons they taught me in both nursing and teaching.
I've learned to look at pros and cons of previous instructors of mine to see what worked and did not work in different situations throughout the field. Also to make sure the intended mission and philosophy of the school aligns with how I do the position I am in.
The Course let me see what is working for me and what I could try to improve my teaching skills. Professionalism and teaching styles go hand in hand while keeping the material simple yet effective for the students to understand.
This was not so much a learning experience as reinforcement of previous knowledge. I would like to get into class early to greet my students, I feel as though I have struggled in the past with getting to class on time through illness or other instructors talking to me. I cannot wait to show my passion for nursing in the classroom again.
I have learned to be a motivator to my class.. through my words and through my actions
lean into skills to make myself a better teacher so my students can benefit from this
Agreed , I can explore what kinds of software to use to support my instructional efforts.
Keeping abreast with new research findings or changes to practice in my field, to know when to change the content of my teaching. Also, always addressing both my colleagues or students with respect to uphold professionalism.
I have learned that setting a good example for students through professional behavior and ethics is equally as important as the content that I am teaching. This includes behavior, timeliness, thoroughness, compassion, and excitement for the profession.
From the module on Developing as an Instructor, I’ve learned the importance of continuous self-reflection, adaptability, and fostering inclusive learning environments. It emphasized how critical it is to align teaching strategies with student needs and program goals.
I intend to apply these insights by regularly evaluating my instructional methods, seeking feedback from students and peers, and integrating active learning techniques to enhance engagement, especially in clinical and hands-on settings. This will help ensure that my teaching remains effective, student-centered, and aligned with professional standards.
I love the class that I teach, so I find it easy to be enthusiastic and excited. However, some chapter content can be "heavy" and "boring," so I combat this by creating games like Jeopardy to avoid a long, boring lecture.
I really liked how one of the videos pointed out how important is to show the students how much you enjoy the subject that you are teaching, and to be knowledgeable about the subject, but willing to learn along with them when new information presents itself. I believe that when it comes to learning, we are all in this together. I have yet to not learn something new with every session I teach.
Professionalism is the key; maintaining yourself and setting an example is of utmost importance.
It has been a lot of learning for me because I understood that to be able to teach you must first know the institution where you work, its principles, vision and mission and from that be a professional who serves as an example for students.
Help show students their progress so they can see their goals.
I have learned to lead by example and to always be respectful to the students and staff because the students are always watching how we act and respond to everyone.
Hello,
As I always model my profession, I would have to agree with the statement in the presentation that some learner may be lacking this experience. However, it is my opinion that I have a responsibility to demonstrate this soft skill.
I've learned that students learn more by what they see than what is being taught. Which means that you must be a role model at all times as they will model their behavior from you
Be a role model, make sure your following the same professionalism standards you set for your student. Come to work prepared, looking presentable and professional. Have your day planned out, have your lesson plan on the board. Be early and be present.
Coming prepared everyday and showing good hygiene can set the tone of your classroom environment
