I am going to try formative rubrics for drafts. I think this might help with student responsibility in the revision process, thus taking some weight off me to be the "corrector" or editor.
The more you can write to a student that is individualistic, the more the student will believe you took the time to grade the assessment.
Ensuring Rubrics reliability requires assessing Performance, Product, or Process; in sum must be consistent, valid, reliable. Instructor evaluation of Rubrics can be interrator or intrarater. Interrater check for consistency of scoring by two or more raters. Intrarater check for consistency of scoring by the same rater and different times. Measuring a Rubrics looks for Content, Clarity, Usefulness, Reliability/Validity that include Civic knowledge and engagement, critical thinking, information literacy, inquiry and analysis, intercultural knowledge, reading, teamwork and problem solving, written and oral communication, and many more.
I learned that when creating a rubric, it must be clear andeffectivee.
Clarity of the rubric is important so the students are clear on the expections.
Rubrics maximizes the utility of of instructors to provide continuous feedback to students throughout the course.
Comment on Anthony Gifford's post: I had never heard of meta-rubrics before, but it makes sense, and I think it would be helpful to use one to make sure assessments of rubrics are done similarly. I'm not quite sure how that looks, but I am curious to explore more of the VALUE rubrics to see how they approach different assignment types. Maybe that will help me to better evaluate different types of rubrics.
Metarubrics are interesting.
Considering validity as well as reliability is essential in the development of a rubric that is fair as well as consistent.
Using a metarubric should be a best practice for the effectiveness of your grading rubric.
Good rubrics help both the students and the instructor.
I am always looking for ways to generate student engagement and enhance student motivation, interest, and performance. I will be using the suggestion of having my students develop rubrics to assess their learning and/or their peers' learning. It will be valuable to connecting the course outcomes to the project objectives and if they are working in groups, the assessment may also improve teamwork and cooperation.
metarubrics evaluate multiple rubrics for clarity and criteria.
Understanding the differences between descriptive and evaluative feedback is useful infomation
The best way to evaluate rubrics is to first explain them to students. If it is new to me, it is new to them. I would also encourage students to use the rubric to plan their work, and then as a review tool before submission. As a professor, I would also not assume they will know how to do that.
La metarúbrica es una herramienta destinada a evaluar rúbricas. Lograr la participación de los estudiantes en la producción de rúbricas les ayuda a comprender mejor la tarea y los resultados del aprendizaje.
Involving students in the development of rubrics is particularly useful when they are involved in project-based learning.
Clarity of rubrics are essential to the learning environment.
