A not-less-important activity the instructor is also responsible for is conflict avoidance and resolution. We must expect differences in behavior from students given their personal profiles. Those differences are likely to cause conflict if left unchecked. So, the instructor must manage the online environment to detect any possible cause of conflict and prevent it from arising. An effective way to do that is to engage in directly, private if necessary, interaction with the student involved. It is always important to remember that students may have or perceived good reasons to behave in ways that could be harmful to the learning experience, and those reasons must be treated with respect and address accordingly.

Student's may experience barriers to learning. It is the duty of the instructor to support them as best as possible so they can be successful. At times, the instructor may have student's that are disruptive to the online learning process and they have to take proper steps to work through that.

I learned that e-mails should be responded to privately and not in an open public forum.  I also learned that I should document emails in case they need to be referred to later.

I have learned to identify different types of learners in an online setting. By identifying different types of learners early I will be able to recognize ways to offer assistance to ensure student success.

Students may be challenging at times or in a challenging situation themselves. It's important to outreach to mitigate negative situations when possible and encourage students to participate in their educational journey.

Keep record keeping simple.

I've learned about various student profiles in e-learning environments and strategies to manage them effectively. I intend to apply this knowledge by tailoring my approach to different learner types, addressing potential issues proactively, and creating a supportive online environment that encourages participation and reduces attrition.

Understanding that learners might leave an e-learning program early for various reasons—such as feeling alienated, managing a heavy workload, juggling competing responsibilities, or facing technical issues—allows me to address these challenges. This insight will help me create a more supportive and effective learning environment that encourages persistence and success.

Focus on attrition

In this section I learned some useful techniques for counceling by email and chat. The section identifying various learner profiles was useful, in particular the strategies for handling each learner type was very useful. The sections on conflict and attrition management could have been expanded.

Just as in a live classroom setting there will be some behavior management that needs to be addressed by myself as the instructor as well as managing conflict, its best to refer to the code of conduct and address these situations immediately.

Communication and file keeping are important for various learners.

interesting area, it will be good for instructor to be mindful of student engagement in class discussion.

Understanding procrastination can delay success

In this section of the program, we learned about communicating with students. This involves not only our own sense of communication, but also the behavior and personality of our students. One thing I liked was that it broke down personality types, such as "quiet" and gave suggestions on how to interact with those students in particular. It also discussed the ways to deal with emails and responding in appropriate times and keeping records of assignments and communication.

Noisy learners are those you will perceive as surfing around the main issues being addressed in the topic of a discussion thread. This can be addressed by reach out to them directly and giving them encouragement/guidance on how to address the topics directly.

I learned how to deal with difficult students implementing the institutions Code of Conduct.

Active and daily communication with students. Address situations accordingly as they vary.

This explained how to deal with different difficulties and distractions with students online and in the classroom and how they should be addressed

It’s important to be mindful of the various types of learners and behaviors the students have in order to thoroughly communicate with them as well as work through their challenges. Consistently communicate with the students to keep them engaged to eliminate the possibility of procrastination and lack of retention of the information given during the course.

As an instructor and educator one must be willing to assess the various learner personalities of each student.

Understanding that some students will be compliant while others non-compliant. Through strategic intervention the instructor will keep the learning experience focused for completion of its goals.
