Activity

I learned that it is very important to maintain students' engagement through various methods: activities, study groups, and even games.

It is important to maintain a simple but effective record-keeping system. It is also important to adopt a system for managing e-mail messages to reduce the time you have to spend responding to them. Some guidelines for managing counselling via e-mail are: Avoid promising immediate responses or advise learners to state the purpose of their inquiry very clearly in the Subject. On the other hand, it is important to be aware that there are different learner profiles: noisy, quiet, disruptors, intimidators, or procrastinators.

I learned that asynchronous discussions encourage reflection and critical thinking, helping introverted students to participate. There are disadvantages in doing synchronous discussions, such as the time schedules, the impact on slow readers and the dominance of fast typers. I also learned that there are different learning styles that must be identified.

From this module, I learned that good strategies applicable to online learning environments consist of a combination of traditional tactics with online strategies. These are building a good relationship with learners, asking the right questions and analysing the answers, using body language, etc. It is also fundamental to project your presence into the e-learning arena.

From this module, I learned that instructing a high-quality online course involves comprehending the structure of the course, understanding the Course Management System (including how to resolve its possible technical problems), learning the nature of the course (goals, assessments, grading system, etc.) and understanding its delivery format.
