The syllabus is contract between the student and the instructor.

There is a lot to consider when selecting the textbook. In the nursing program I am an instructor in, the book is preselected though.

From the "Planning and Preparation" module, I learned that effective instruction starts with clear goals, organized content and thoughtful lesson planning. Good preparation helps ensure that lessons run smoothly and meet the needs of all learners. I intend to apply this by creating detailed lesson plans that include objectives, materials, and a variety of teaching strategies.

I really took away the components and value of creating an inviting learning environment. I will apply the practice of walking around and putting myself in the perspective of the students to help facilitate this type of learning environment.

Using your experience in the field, and being aware of what you know and need to hone in on, help making a viable learning plan to present to your students

The Degree, or D, of the A-D components of instructional objectives stuck out to me. The idea that some topics or concepts probably require less than 100% proficiency, while others can be 100% and life and death matters in the medical field is a good exercise to weight your course teaching times on ideas.

Liked the suggestion about having a notepad with you at each class to jot down things that need to be addressed or done.  Being an older person I still like the idea of pen & paper as opposed to the younger generation these days which do everything on an electronic device.  I still use a planner as well as keep my schedule on my phone.  Duplication never hurts.

Planning and preparing not only yourself as an instructor, but the learning environment for the student is crucial to set them up for success. Creating a check list is a way to make sure this is accomplished.

Without planning, you fail the student and then yourself. How are they going to model after you if you show that you are not prepared?

Planning ensures instruction is goal-oriented rather than reactive. It aligns lessons with curriculum standards, learning objectives, and assessments, leading to purposeful and meaningful learning experiences.

if I fail to prepare I must prepare to fail.

Planning and preparation are of utmost importance, and this is where I will spend most of my time.

One thing of importance is that an instructor must be familiar with a course and well prepared for it. This involves mental preparation, review of all course material, familiarity with campus services, and creation of a comprehensive syllabus.

Resources and tools how to successfully teach your classes while stay professional, organized, and engaging with your students.

Be early, be organized and be successful.

My takeaway for this module is that Planning and Preparation are key components for a successful delivery of teaching. It goes to show how that the instructor or professor has a laid down process in place for not only a successful outcome but also a plan to execute each and every item on the outline agenda.

One of the key takeaways I gained from this module is the importance of being organized and intentional on the very first day of the semester. That initial class sets the tone for the rest of the course, so it’s crucial to approach it with clarity and preparation.

Having a checklist is a practical way to ensure that nothing is overlooked—from arriving early to setting up the classroom and reviewing your materials. It also creates a calm and confident start to the day. Equally important is taking the time to meet your students and make them feel seen and valued. Demonstrating that you are prepared and genuinely excited to teach not only builds trust, but also communicates to students that their success in the course matters to you.

Overall, this module emphasized how a well-prepared first day can lay a strong foundation for a positive and productive learning environment.

Preparation and planning sets you (the instructor) and your students up for success.  Course Materials, Learning Modalities, Resources, and Expectations are provided.  Your preparation is reflective in your personal presentation along with the instruction the students receive, their engagement, and how much they are able to learn.

It's important to make a checklist and it is extremely important to build relational capacity with students.

Having a syllabus is essential when teaching students because we gain clarity and alignment with clinical competencies. This serves as a roadmap throughout the course.

This lesson taught me one of the most important tools an instructor can have and that is a syllabus. The best way to be an effective instructor is to have a written contract between you and the students. This contract should give a direction of the class goals and objectives, timeliness of testing blocks and assignments, and last but not least the progress each has made to meet accreditation for class attendance and performance.
