Online communication with students has to be positive and very thorough. Knowing that these students don't meet in person, it's important to do follow-ups with them to ensure a better learning experience.

The role of technology is trending upwards, it's always going to be changing. I actually like the changes but I know some don't. It's actually made my charting quicker and also if medical terminology is built in, it helps with autocorrect. It's important to always engage in it when something new is being introduced so that with continued use it gets better.

Just sharing 1 challenge and that's language barriers. I had one student that didn't speak English at all and when lecturing I felt like she was just staring off into space. I had to use a translator with her to make sure she understood what I had just went over, I also informed her that more time was going to have to be put in by her to translate her reading from Spanish to English. It's important to have understanding about the online learner. More than likely these students take this approach because it provides them with flexibility also some are more comfortable doing online vs being in a classroom. Either way as healthcare continues to grow, so does technology and also how students rather just now graduating HS or the adult going back to school needs to have options available to fit the lifestyle of the individual.

I believe in engaging students the topic in which I'm teaching. Pulling out a disease process and having them act it out as a reenactment between someone pretending as the patient and one being the nurse allows the student to practice on how they want to assess the patient, key questions to ask, and it allows them to gain more understanding about the disease process. What are your thoughts?

I've learned that with being an educator it's important to stay in compliance and do things right the first time and each time after that. Never take shortcuts or be influenced to do something outside of compliance. Although each of us have different styles of teaching, all of us have rules to follow to ensure that students are also staying within the rules set before them.
