I really appreciated the section regarding extra credit with the pros and cons of adding it into the test. If extra credit is allowed keeping the points low enough to change a -grade to a +grade is all that should be allowed. This is often a difference of 1 or 2 points. I like the suggestion given regarding a way for students to earn an extra point or two. Students can list what else they learned from the material that was not covered by the test.

When students are not engaging in classroom curriculum, it may be necessary to have other plans on how to deliver the materials. Knowing the types of learners can help with the development of lesson plans but make sure to have something for every type of learner because there will most likely be a mix of students. Being able to pivot in the middle of class can help students who are struggling with the with material or just their attention span. Personally, I like to provide vocabulary lists, study guides, and helpful websites to reinforce the information that is pertinent to… >>>

Fun activities, discussions, and I as the instructor bringing real world scenarios to the classroom are ways I like to engage my students in the classroom. It helps that I truly love the field I am in, and I have a lot of enthusiasm to share with my students.

It's important to have a lesson plan but prepared to deviate, because often times students can throw a monkey wrench into the mix.

It so satisfying to be able to meet a student where they are at in their learning style, their life experiences, culture, and life stage. This module stressed the importance of understanding the factors to look at when working with a diverse group. I really appreciated the advice of not letting students turn challenging situations into a gripe session but at the same time, letting the students know you are listening and have heard them. In most environments in the real world the ideal often does not exist, so helping students to pivot in a classroom may be good practice… >>>

It is important to remember that information regarding all aspects of a program such as admissions, program requirements, certifications or licenses necessary for employment, and repayment of loans be disclosed to students before they enroll. Recruitment should be pursued but instead of promises, facts regarding the industry and job placement should be the standard when relaying information in order to prevent accidental misrepresentation.

There are many laws and guidelines to follow when contacting a potential student.

In the beginning of class, I let my students know my education and experience that qualifies me to instruct, I also let them know that I am human and make mistakes and I do not mind being corrected. I love when my students can correct me because it lets me know they are taking in the information.

I really enjoyed the video on the square diagram because I have done many things right awkwardly, and I work towards doing what's right well.

Students, like most people just want the time and attentions it takes to feel heard including angry students. Creating an environment where students are easily observed helps to identify students who my need momentary attention. If the same students are disruptive on an ongoing basis and even acting out angrily this may require a one-on-one conversation to determine what is needed. Most students can be helped but there is the occasion where it is just impossible, and the recommendation may be for the student to reevaluate their choices and return to the program at a later date if they are… >>>

One of the pros of having smaller class sizes is that everyone is visible and relatively close to the instructor. I definitely work to make eye contact with all my students because the size allows for this and I can engage students who space out a little more easily.

I really appreciated the information on center-stage students because I have had a few of those since beginning teaching. It gave me some good ideas for the future, such as having cards to limit the number of comments students can make or giving them a task that will occupy their time… >>>
