It is beneficial to plan accordingly prior to class and to keep a checklist with you to ensure all your objectives are met.

That a more detailed syllabus is better for the students. You can never be overprepared.

Being prepared, providing detailed syllabus, ensuring to be present early and taking the time to learn names and how to pronounce them properly, providing all content by multiple methods are all important to encourage students feel they have well prepared instruction.

How to be organized for your class and prep ahead before lecture

I have learned that pre preparation, prevents poor performances

Checklists and objectives make sure nothing of importance is left out

I have learned that preparation is key to good instruction.

Clear Concise

  1. Preparation
  2. Preparing teaching space
  3. Know your course materials
  4. Define a syllabus
  5. Create a calendar with course content and due dates
  6. Share detailed goals and how they will be achieved
  7. Consult with other staff members on your syllabus, goals and materials which will be used for the class

Getting prepared for the first class should include walking around the classroom and evaluating it as if you were a student just walking in.  Are all of the supplies that will be used available?  Providing an organized space will assist learning.

Planning ahead and being prepared for your class.

Planning and being prepared  is important to gain the respect of students.

I’ve learned that effective instruction begins long before students walk into the classroom—it starts with thoughtful preparation, a clear syllabus, and a welcoming environment. Writing clear instructional goals and objectives helps students understand expectations and learning outcomes, while early planning and a well-prepared teaching space build trust and engagement. These strategies will shape how I organize, communicate, and connect with my students from day one.

Planning and preparation are essential for a CTE instructor because they ensure that instruction is purposeful, aligned with industry standards, and responsive to student needs. Effective planning allows instructors to organize content, integrate hands-on learning opportunities, and incorporate real-world applications that make learning relevant and engaging. It also helps in managing time efficiently, setting clear objectives, and preparing materials, equipment, and safety protocols—especially important in technical and lab-based settings. Thoughtful preparation supports differentiated instruction, ensuring all students, regardless of skill level, can progress toward competency and career readiness.

I learned that good planning is essential for a good and efficient learning experience. Good planning involves setting goals and objectives, writing a detailed syllabus, and choosing the right literature, among other things.

Planning and preparation are a very important step in the teaching process, and students love to know what to expect ahead of time. We must also remember that these things have to have subject to change.

I believe the syllabus will assist the students, and as Shelby stated, it provides a GPS. As a novice educator, it will assist me as well. I will implement a daily checklist for myself and have a dated note pad as a reminder (student needs or questions; content). I think that will be valuable.

I learned to make sure I am prepared for class, come in prepared and early.  I also learned to know students name and great them personally.

It is really important to set expectations at the very start of class. In doing so you avoid multiple questions about simple things. Make sure you are prepared at all times and also carry a notepad to write down anything that may arrise.

Its really important to come 30mins prior to class to greet the students

It is easier for me to create a relaxed and calm learning environment when I am calm and relaxed.  Arriving early, allows some time for my personal de-stressing and acclimation to the learning environment and the same happens as the early students arrive and set their own minds to the process of learning.
