Consistency is key! Provide a consistant and organized learning environment. Also be sure to provide good, constructive, positive feedback. Do your best to be accessable.
A combination of print, audio, video and communication tools should be used by an instructor for the effective delivery of an online course. When converting the course content for use in the online environment, 4 O'S (Origin, Organization, orchestration and Outcomes Assessment) of course design should be kept in mind. Emails, Course Announcements, discussion boards, games and blogs are very good tools to use to enhance student engagement. Keeping layout of the online course consistent is very importanrt as it allows students to access the course content quickly and easily and also makes it easier for the instructor to edit and modify thr course content.
I used to be worried that a simple layout would be boring to students. However, as I have learned in this module, the content does need to be provided in a manner that is easy for students to access. The content should be in short, accessible methods. Updating is also easier in this way.
I appreciated the examples of effective teaching methods in an online environment - it basically boils down to using a variety of communication methods in a consistent matter and making sure your online course is engaging, accessible, and provdes the most important information in smaller "chunks" so as not to risk losing student interest.
Online format needs to organized and engaging. Instructors can use personal experience and let their personality show to engage the students.
When transitioning a course from F2F to online it is important to organize the information well and select what is most important "need to know" to provide short lectures that emphasize this content. It is also important to be consistent in how materials are organized so students become familiar with where to find what they need. Presenting yourself as an instructor, both at the beginning and throughout the course, in a way that helps students connect with you helps the student feel welcomed and more present in the course.
F2F and online learning are similar; however, they are different enough that the course needs to be transformed into a different format. The approach to online learning is also very unique and takes a different mindset.
When going from face to face to remote learning, the instructor cannot solely rely on the student's intrinsic motivation. Use feedback, accountability, and objective and subjective evaluations. Being organized is a key component to keeping the students engaged.
This module really brought home the importance of attending to details when designing (or converting from f2f) an online course. The point that every step NEEDs to be assessed fir how well it fits an online environment.
my best take away in course orchestration in particular being able to rise to the challenge and make an effort to modify and edit content as needed and as often as necessary to best accomodate and facilitate effective teaching and learning.
Love the fact of welcoming letter and wrapping up ( ending ). It is a Human Touch in this online enviroment
The transition from F2F to online takes a lot of thought and time put in. Making use of email broadcasting to reinforce concepts or clear up misunderstandings is also important.
Consistency and using a variety of tools for the learning environment is important.
I like the saying "it is not transitioning information but transforming".
New modes of learning and teaching are presenting in the transformation process.
Consistency is a key part of building a successful online learning environment.
The layout is extremely important and you have to adapt and not try to just teach the same way if you were F2F
Course layout is an essential function of student success.
This module has been very informative. I learned that it is important for the student learner to have enhanced instructional content from the instructor. Some common delivery methods to look at are:
1. E-text
2. textbooks
3. Streaming video
4. Podcasts
5. Electronic exams in the LMS
6. Threaded discussions
I learned that there are a variety of tools you can use to help successfully build an online course. You never want to “start from scratch”.
There are many things to consider when transferring from a F2F format to an online one. This past year has taught us that the ability to change directions in education is vital to the success of our students. By using the technology at hand and combining it with our knowledge of the subject material while keeping the course content as close to the F2F course as possible makes for a more seamless transition. From there we can start to tweak things as need be to make the courses as effective as possible.
