About me

Newer instructor here!  I am looking forward to hear from all of you and to glean some creative and successful tips in order to create a rich learning environment for my graduate level students!

Activity

It is good to engage in smalltalk, use text abbreviations, and color, bold and font to create more interest and encourage the students to engage.

Making my course my own is important in order to give the students a teaching style that helps them to learn in the way they need to learn while still being consistent with my personality and teaching style.

I look forward to exploring the different ways to teach online, such as voice over PPT, synchronous sessions, discussions, etc.  I have a feeling I will learn to love certain methods and hate others. But much of that is due to inexperience.  What methods have you learned to love unexpectedly?

There are multiple venues of feedback that I can use to challenge and improve my teaching skills.  Peer review, student review, and qualitative studies can help direct me in paths to move forward towards an exemplary learning experience for my students.

I really learned a lot about peer and self-feedback.  I will be implementing this into my class immediately!

Specific guidelines helps the student direct thier criticisim in a constructive way.

There is so much here on how to create a dynamic learning environment for my students! A dynamic syllabus is a great way to build and change the topics/information in real time.  This is a great tool as medicine changes so quickly, especially in a pandemic! The tips to encouraging participation in the discussion boards are also helpful.  Providing extra credit or even a place to discuss without the instructor are innovative and fantastic ideas!

What toolds/websites/resources do you find work best when attempting to teach APRN students how to transition from their RN to APRN role?

Consistency is imperative when you are setting up a course.  Consistent time requirements, visual affects and language is helpful in providing a stable environment and reassuring the students expectations of the course. It is important to review and change as needed.  Using a shared base of files can help to save time and energy over multiple courses.

There were some great tips in this section in how to project myself more into the course and to build trust with the students.  The personal welcome message sent to each student by the end of the week with my attached biography and a reminder of my office hours is a great tip and I plan on implementing that immediately!

As each of us is individual and brings different backgrounds and experiences to the table, it is imperative we all understand the objectives, learning platform and assessment of each course.  While I may require one thing from my students, my peer may require something different.  I need to invite conversation and interaction with not only my students, but fellow peers in order to make the process as conducive to long-term retention and easy of maneuvering through the course.
