When going from face to face to remote learning, the instructor cannot solely rely on the student's intrinsic motivation. Use feedback, accountability, and objective and subjective evaluations. Being organized is a key component to keeping the students engaged. 

I the emphasis of creating a framework of timely, personal informative feedback to keep the student from feeling isolated or detached. Also, I like the the emphasis of reflecting on a problem: Problems are not bad; they can be opportunities to improve the course. 

Synchronous and asynchronous learning guidelines are important. Students like clear expectations so they can know how to succeed in your class. The instructor's organization is key to this. 

I have learned to consider the audience and evaluate the effectiveness of the technology tool. Students also appreciate variety. Avoid over-using one tool. Teach, use technology, and listen to the feedback to achieve the desired objectives.
