Online classes can require just as much time and perhaps even more time than a face to face course. It is impotant a student has both the discipline required and the organization skills needed to be a successful on line learner.

 

There is a distince difference between assessmsnt and evaluation.  A detailed addessment will guide the student in a specific manner, while an evaluation the sum of accumulative assignments.

The assessment tools an instructor chooses must appropriatly reflect the objectives of the course beint taught.

Rubrics provide a clear and consise outline of expectations not only for assignments, but for learning outcomes. Collaborative communication sets stanards for substansive posts from students.  This prevents low quality posstings with little revelence or a regergatation of information while provoking critical thinking.

One of the most important ways to motivate a student to participate in a class and prevent them from getting bored is by providing prompt and frequent feedback.  This will aid in their motivation while they develop and refine technical and time management skills.

Clearly communicating the rules for correspondence between students / students and faculty is essential. It is also important to know when communicating the different modes of communication being content, process and feedback.  Being civil, compassionate and respectful in communication will foster an enviornment of learning.

It is important to assess the class you are teaching an match the proper tecnology to the requirements of the class while taking into consideration the instructors prefered way of communicating with the students.  It is important to be flexible in changing modes of communication as reviewing students feedback.

There are many things to take into consideration in the transition from F2F to online learning. Evaluating, assessing and organizing an online course is important in order to keep the material up to date and appealing.

Keeping students engaged, while setting specific expectations and ensuring a safe enviornment can be a delicate balance.  Positive communication, providing specific direction and honest feedback is essential.

Open communication and Organization are two key components to online teaching.  This will clarify for the students course expectations and time management skills required for a successful outcome.
