I enjoyed learning about the guidelines and the DNC registry and how the national and state may not be aligned, but must still be honored.
There is a strong commitment, legally, to practice ethical and complaint communication practices. Can-Spam Act and DNC registry are examples of protecting those individuals.
I learned about the DNC fines per incident and didn't know California was not a member of SARA.
Always strive to provide the best student experience with accurate and up to date information.
I learned that there are laws behind everything and verbiage is very important.
It is always best to do the right thing. This will only add to the success rates for the College and potential students.
I liked this section because it aligns with my own ethics and values. I appreciate the examples that were used regarding honest and misleading statement to potential students. I was reminded to be careful with my words in all scenarios, and I understand that I can still guide students with honesty and realistic expectations.
The "Do the Right Thing" module was very beneficial. I knew some of the laws but gaining knowledge on the why was helpful. The DNC and Can- Spam was also helpful.
A new piece of information for me was to ensure that the subject line of an email matches the content and is not misleading.
This module was very informative as far as the administration process. It taught me a lot about laws and regulations that not only I must follow but also the admins within my school.
This module has been extremely helpful, especially because I had no prior knowledge of the regulations that were discussed. Learning about these guidelines has made me more aware and cautious in my daily responsibilities. It has also provided me with valuable information that will help me communicate more effectively and appropriately with students, ensuring that I follow federal standards at all times. I believe this knowledge will positively impact the way I approach my role and contribute to a more compliant and respectful educational environment.
I learned that there were actual laws that enforce protection against unwanted or unsolicited marketing/advertising calls.
The DNC call list and the CAN-SPAM are important to remember.
I learned important information and reminders when engaging with prospective and active students. The module helped remind me that we are a liaison with the financial aid options but it is crucial to follow the rules and provide accurate information. I also learned more about the CAM-SPAM Act and Do Not Call List.
When it comes to communication with students, being transparent, respectful, and clear in all exchanges is essential. Compliant communication involves:
Clear Boundaries: Setting proper boundaries is critical, especially in virtual or written communication. Keeping a professional tone, avoiding ambiguity, and sticking to the purpose of the communication helps maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
Confidentiality: In all communications, it’s important to ensure the privacy of student information. Being mindful of what is shared, and respecting the confidentiality of grades, personal circumstances, and academic progress is non-negotiable.
Tone and Language: The way we communicate can affect how students feel about their learning experience. It's necessary to use inclusive, supportive, and neutral language. This helps avoid misunderstandings and ensures that students do not feel singled out or disrespected.
Accessibility: Ensuring that all communications are accessible to students with various needs is a key part of compliance. This includes using language that is inclusive, providing alternatives for different learning styles, and being adaptable in communication methods, such as offering audio or video materials alongside written content.
Consistency: Applying the same standards across all students is vital for fairness. Consistent communication regarding deadlines, expectations, and feedback not only ensures that all students have the same opportunities but also that they feel treated equitably.
In applying this, I intend to:
Be proactive about informing students of expectations, deadlines, and policies, avoiding ambiguity.
Ensure my language is neutral and inclusive, taking care to avoid any inadvertent bias.
Create clear communication guidelines, such as office hours, preferred communication channels, and response times, to minimize confusion.
Maintain confidentiality when handling student information, especially in group discussions or online platforms.
Encourage two-way communication by being open to questions and feedback, which fosters trust and strengthens the relationship.
This approach is about creating a respectful and professional environment, where both students and instructors feel heard and valued.
Hello All! :)
During this module, I learned the critical importance of maintaining compliance in all aspects of our communication and engagement with prospective students. A key takeaway was the necessity of paying close attention to detail, especially when reviewing the Do Not Call list to ensure we are acting in accordance with all regulations and ethical standards.
Additionally, I was reminded that empathy plays a vital role in student interactions. When students encounter enrollment challenges, it’s important to not only provide solutions but to do so with understanding and care.
The overarching goal of this module was clear: to avoid any misleading information and instead focus on clearly and truthfully representing the value and attributes of Arizona College of Nursing.
I've developed a strong understanding of the importance of legal compliance, particularly in areas that involve communication within postsecondary education—such as outreach to students, prospective students, and alumni. Through this, I’ve gained valuable insight into the differences between commercial, transactional, and informational content, which plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with Do Not Call (DNC) regulations and promoting ethical, responsible communication.
As I move forward, I’m committed to applying this knowledge by ensuring that all communications I create or manage—whether related to admissions, marketing, or student engagement—are fully compliant with relevant laws and institutional policies. I’ll pay close attention to how each message is categorized, ensuring it is not only legally sound but also clear, respectful, and aligned with professional standards. By doing so, I aim to support both the integrity of the institution and the quality of our interactions with all audiences.
