I learned to maintain interactive activities for student engagement
From this module, I’ve learned that effective teaching and learning require intentional structure balanced with opportunities for self-direction and reflection. Immersion in the topic helps students connect deeply with the material, while self-reflection allows both instructor and student to recognize growth and areas for improvement. I also see the importance of balancing individual accountability with teamwork and interdependence, as both are key to developing professional collaboration skills.
Going forward, I intend to apply these principles by creating more structured learning experiences that include clear deadlines, meaningful communication, and ongoing formative assessments, while still encouraging students to take an active, self-directed role in their own learning.
I learnt about what active learning actually is, why we do it and why its effective. I will incorporate more activities that align with this moving forward, to maximize student engagement.
Reading how active learning techniques gained its momentum in the 80’s-90’s was incredibly interesting to me. I remember being in classroom settings and taking online courses and always feeling like my attention span was shorter during lecture only classes. Having open class discussions always helped me understand and retain information the best.
In this module, I learned how to implement active learning online by guiding students through collaborative projects, reflective writing, and problem-solving activities. I plan to apply these strategies to increase engagement, critical thinking, and student responsibility in my courses.
Active learning helps the student maintain his or her engagement. It's easy to forget what you learn after reading it but if you continuously utilize active learning, your chance of retaining information is higher.
Students that are engaged will be more successful, implementing fun activities will help to keep students engaged in learning.
It is important to create activities to engage students in the course. Engaged students have better success and understanding.
As teachers, it can be difficult to let go of control, but our role is to facilitate student's learning. When they take responsibility by questioning, discussing, and applying knowledge, they develop deeper understanding and essential skills. I plan to strenghten this through case studies and problem-based learning in my online courses.
active learning is enjoyable when the students can engage in what they are learning
Active learning requires instructors to provide learners with opportunities to apply content to solve problems.
Active learning needs a good planned stucture to help the student to do what is expected; listen, read, write, discuss, reflect and work for a project in the subject.
Active learning includes gamifying certain elements of the course to enhance engagement
Active Learning puts the responsibility on the Students to Learn. The instructor assumes the role of coach and steers the learning for results.
Learned the concept of Active Learning, and its principles which is extremely helpful. In addition - Collaborative learning, Cooperative learning, and Problem-based learning add to overall understanding of how many different approaches exists and what are their positive and negative sides.
Active learning has been proven to enhance students’ critical thinking abilities, improve overall learning effectiveness, and develop stronger writing skills.
Active learning allows students and teachers to engage in so many ways/platforms to continue to encourage education. Traditional old style teaching in my opinion did not promote fun active learning.
I learned how important facilitating active learning is and how different it may be from some of the old structured teaching techniques we may have learned from. I love that it is so student centered and focuses on teaching critical thinking instead of just memorizing information.
Active learning is not just lecture it get students more engaged and involved.
Maintain an interactive approach with students.
