Group based learning enforces critical thinking while collaborating. This is important for student engagement and learning.

Rubrics are essential, not only for grading but setting expectations. It creates an even playing field and allows the students to complete the assignment based on the expectation. Instructors should provide adaquate feedback that is individualized for each student and their performance.

The instructor must take into consideration of the different obstacles a student may encounter, to ensure each student has an equal opportunity of completing the assigned task. Instructors must also set the tone and expectations at the beginning of the course for students to understand their roles in the classroom to be successful.

I have learned that it is important to not only make the learning student focused but to ensure that it is active. Active learning is more than writing and discussion groups. I plan to apply this knowledge by ensuring there is at least one unique activity included with each lesson. Ask the students what types of learning encourages them the most, then use those responses to create the different activities.
