I have learned how to create a student- teacher relationship and establish an open and positive learning environment. I think it is a great way to establish my presence by letting the students know my credentials, but also let them know about some things related to career, hobbies and how it makes a difference in the lives of others. It can go a long way to help the students.
I will encourage students to provide their short biography on day 1 of the course. After 1st day I will send a welcome email to each student. I will provide my short biography as well.
Providing students with your background and a small list of hobbies can help build a confident instructor/student relationship. Setting your expectations is very important for the student.
This aspect of the learning was very new to me. I came away with having a discussion section just for general questions, as well as, creating a bibliography for myself and students to get each other.
Projecting your presence as an online instructor is very important. While taking online classes, I felt more motivated and confident when my instructor maintained adequate communication with the class. Sometimes, students just need reassurance from the instructor; the reassurance promotes active participation from the students and confidence in submitting assignments.
It is important to interact with your students on personal and professional level. ALso what is expected of each Mod. and what is not allowed, restate school policies on netiquet.
