Technology and online courses have some challenges when honoring FERPA and other privacy laws. This education made me aware of some other privacy laws I was not familiar with and reiterates the importance of faculty training and education on these matters.
FERPA requires faculty training to best protect student's privacy and education rights/records
This has helped me understand the importance of complying with FERPA
I've learned the importance of protecting student privacy and how notes can become academic record if they no longer meet the definition of "sole possession".
Providing expertise and real world/personal scenarios can help my students stay engaged, and also creating opportunities for feedback and chances for students to relate to the same information. Encouragement and feedback can be super important to keep students engaged and I hope I'm able to provide that as an instructor.
Creating a crisis scenario and having discussions about it can help students understand where they are in understanding content, give time to express what went well/not well, and allow for new questions/discussion on topic matters.
Starting class with a lighthearted opener can allow students to feel more comfortable as they prepare for class to start, and allows the teacher to better connect with the students.
The importance of seeing the classroom from the student's perspective
Utilizing different delivery methods to teach content so all learning styles are included.
The impact the first encounter/class can have on students, and how to make students feel comfortable in the classroom
