Effective and Efficient Instructional Strategies --> Planning Impactful Lessons

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

The teacher must have empathy for the students. The teacher must make the class exciting and fun. The teacher must let the students know what the teacher expects of them. The teacher must let the students know that being on time is important. And, the teacher must let them know what to expect at the ending of the subject that will be taught.

I learned the idea of intiating a class and closing portion of a class. Lectures can be effective when they are delivered as guided and well planned discussions.

Take time to create meaningful and engaging opening/finishing activities. Students want to be more hands on then just listening to a lecture.

Impactful lessons are most effective when they are clearly structured, include active learning, and use a mix of questioning strategies to keep students engaged. I plan to apply this by being more intentional with lesson flow, especially adding more student thinking time and hands-on practice.  Starting the day by asking how everyone is doing gives you a better understanding of what type of lesson will be good for the day.

Much of this module is what I’ve heard before, but the refresher was refreshing. I especially clicked on the concept of caring.  Caring is a critical skill for managers. I would like to do a better job showing that I care for the students. Often what gets in the way of caring about them personally is caring too much about them learning the standards.

I learned that I have to plan how I will begin and end the lesson and how to scaffold concepts to help students learn.

The beginning of class activities is just as important as the end of class activities. The key is to keep the students engaged and interested in the course material.

Making students feel like they are missing out if they do not attend class on time and finishing each class with something that makes students want to come back the next day are key practices.

Provide structured and guided questions to engage students not just teaching exclusively to the PowerPoints.

finding ways to keep the students engaged and interested throughout the day will help in their long term interest in the subject.

I love the idea of having the students to interactive learning with each other. I am going to apply that to my class next week to help them review, but also see if other students have a different way of remembering ideas to share with their group

I want to increase my ability to end with a strong closing with some type of review of the objectives.

I like the idea of starting class with questions relating to new subject matter or continuing matter.  I also like the idea of a end of class activity.  I already begin class with big welcomes and how are you today.

I learned that I should continue, or maybe even strengthen my Follow-up questions at the end of class to reinforce the topics covered and place stronger emphasis on the main points of the unit connecting them to the relevance of the lesson.

I learned the idea of setting the tone for the beginning of class is really important, including assessing how they are feeling, and ensuring they are actively involved for the rest of the lesson.

Closing day is as important as the introduction it inspires students and the instructor knows their weaknesses that may be covered the next day

Planning impactful lessons is all about having clear goals, keeping things organized, and using activities that actually help students connect the dots.

The initial minutes of a class are crucial for its flow. It’s essential not only to be energetic but also to have intention and purpose for every class.

Planning impactful lessons means being intentional with objectives, activities, and assessments so time is used effectively and learning actually happens. Clear goals, active learning, differentiation, and regular checks for understanding help keep students engaged and reduce the need for re-teaching. The goal is purposeful, student-centered instruction, not just covering content.
