It's important to manage the classroom effectively (online and in-person) and learning strategies to communicate with students and deal with undesirable behaviors.

Asynchronous discussions are possible in an online environment. Synchronous discussions are difficult among large groups and are more effective with one-on-one.

To connect with students in a virtual/distance learning platform, instructors should take the initiative to create a presence through introductions, biography, and credentials.

Having a good understanding of the online platform and course set up will assist me in my delivery techniques and strategies.

Be creative in how to present information for the different types of learners to maximize reception. Preparation and organization are keys for new instructors. Keep in mind that adults have a short attention span (< 20 min), so short lectures are effective.

This topic taught me the importance of learning more about your students and sharing personal information about yourself (to an extend) to build rapport. Providing an overview of the course, class/lab structure, and setting expectations from the get-go will be helpful in the flow of the course.

I learned that planning and preparing are keys to be successful as an instructor and to set up students for success. I appreciate the suggestion of coming in early to create a welcoming classroom, attempt to learn their names, make yourself approachable, and also ease the nerves of the day.

To be an effective instructor, it is essential to model positive and professional behavior, manage the classroom to support learning, and motivate the students. I intend to show up to classes on time, prepared and professional dressed, learn from my senior instructors on essential soft and hard skills, and show my passion in my expertise to motivate the students.
